Solved 0xao internal power error bsod on shutdown.

k when I enter "verifier.exe" I get a 'no defices match the name spceified' error. Should I turn off UAC? This should work in Vista right?
I just updated my Nvidia driver as well as the intel chipset & SATA drivers today. All per the Acer website, but still getting the 0xA0 on shut down.

Are you entering verifier.exe into the start menu? It should work in Vista, yes. It has not changed since XP at least (as that's the latest OS I've tested it with).

Be sure to get the latest updates from the Intel site rather than the Acer page, as the drivers found on Intel.com will be more up-to-date.

Yes. START then type in the 'start search' box at the bottom - wit the little magnifying glass to the far right - correct?
Should I try the cmd. prompt instead?

Will do for the intel updates. Actually found a newer NVidia driver on their site as well.

That should be right for the verifier procedure. You might try doing it from the command prompt, and also make sure you have Administrator privileges. Right-click>Run as Admin.

If that doesn't work, then I'm afraid I don't know what to tell you. We can try to go on without it I guess.

Ok, So a lot happened yesterday. I managed to get verifier.exe to run (after getting an expansion drive and freeing up 20 gigs from the laptop). I configured it as instructed and rebooted (with the 0xA0 bsod on shut down). then when it restarted I immeadiately got a new BSOD (0xC9) so I couldn't boot into windows normally. restarted (0xA0 bsod on shutdown again) and booted into safe mode. From there I attempted to turn off verifier.exe, but got the 'no devices match the name spceified' error again and was stuck.
The only other option I saw was to restart using the 'use last known good configuration option'. This got me into normal mode, but with restricted access, as I got the enter product key for validation nonesense and when I did the software indicated theat the key was already in use - so windows started up with the 'this version of windows is not genuine' txt in the bottom right corner.
After a little hunting around I managed to get that straightened out (I HOPE)

So I'm guessing I should run jcgriff again and post the results for you?

Here you go. Thanks for all the trouble you are going to. to help me out here. I'm wondering, though, If it ends up that I have to reinstall windows, is there any way to find out if the product key I have is, in fact, defunct? Would like to know that before I wipe the system.

For some reason, the dumps are now mentioning iastor.sys, the Intel storage driver. You say you installed updated chipset drivers? I'm wondering if there might be some relation there.

Try using the Intel Update tool to check for updates: Intel® Driver Update Utility
Code:
iaStor.sys Wed Apr 25 14:27:47 2007 (462F9DA3)
iaStor.sys Thu Jul 12 18:59:22 2007 (4696B24A)

Also, run a few malware scans, just for the heck of it I guess. I'm not sure why the Microsoft anti-malware driver (used by MSE and Defender) is being mentioned a lot, it's possible malware is related.

Run a Full scan with Microsoft Security Essentials, and also a Full scan with Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Reviews and free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware downloads at CNET Download.com

Also run: Free ESET Online Antivirus Scanner

Pretty sure those were from the morning of Sept 1st, when the seagate expansion drive I'd gotten was being installed. there was some software it wanted to insall that I ended up opting out of cus it caused a bsod. Pretty sure it was an 0x8e iastor bsod. that make any sense?

doing Malwarebites full scan now. Security Essentials is on with realtime protection and has not been reporting anything. Can't see it in my sys. tray though, how do I get it to scan?

Hey, I just noticed in the last summary of the dumps there was no mention of the
Bug Check 0xC9: DRIVER_VERIFIER_IOMANAGER_VIOLATION

that I saw when I had driver verifier activated.
should I try to run it again?

To do a scan with MSE, find the program in start menu or tray (might have to Expand the tray), and the option should be there in the first tab.

Try running driver verifier again. You might want to create a restore point first to make restoring easy. See here: System Restore Point - Create - Windows 7 Forums

When it crashes, check to see if there is a minidump file in C:\Windows\Minidump. Keep Driver Verifier running until you get a crash that leaves a dump (within a reasonable time period - a few days?).

A repair install is also an excellent option at this point; I believe something is messed up with the OS, possibly on top of another problem. See here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Unfortunately I don't have the right disc to do a repair install. (Mine is OEM i'm pretty sure)

If Driver Verifier causes the system to crash before it boots into windows, is it any use? will there (or should there) be a dump file created?

I'm not exactly sure the point at which Windows can create a crash dump. You'd have to just try it and see; if no dump is created, keep it running and hope it does next time!

If a clean install isn't too much of a problem, that might be your next best bet.

I'm thinking a clean install is the way to go here too. I've already started backing files up on my expansion drive. it just sucks that I'm gonna loose Nero, and Acrobat (no disks to reinstall them).

If you need recommendations to replace Nero, I could help you out, and Acrobat Reader is a free download. Can't create/edit PDFs with Reader though.
