Solved (0xc004c032)

Downloaded Microsoft Office 2010 free trial. The download itself went ok. When I click on Microsoft Word or Excel I get the following error (0XC004C032). Not sure what this means or what to do. I have rebooted the PC several times and as far as I know I have all the latest internet explorer updates. I am using IE 8.

The actual error code means that the activation server has denied further time for the trial.
Apparently the time for the trial has expired.
Possibly trial had to be made during a certain time period.
Make sure that the time and date on your computer is correctly set.

Time and date on computer are correct. The trial period started at end of January. I am just now getting around to setting it up on this PC. Trial period is for 60 days

Thanks for all the help. I googled the error code and it seems that I wasn't the only one that had seen this problem. I followed the suggested steps and it seems to be working ok.

Hi freeze,

I want to add that I completely agree with Richard about OpenOffice and give it a strong recommendation. I know people who have Microsoft Office and downloaded OpenOffice and ended up using the OpenOffice equivalent program by choice (despite the fact that it's free and they had paid for Microsoft Office). The only downside is that it does not contain equivalent programs for everything in Microsoft Office (e.g., there's no equivalent for Outlook), but other than that one, it covers most that are typically used most frequently.

Since it's free, at least download it and give it a try. You can compare it to the Office Trial since you now have that working. If you decide you'd rather have and pay for Office, you can always uninstall OpenOffice. If not, then you'll have a great suite of products and you won't have spent a dime getting it (and can instead uninstall the Microsoft Office trial).

Its basically the same thing as the paid Office. Many have used it and are glad that they saved the money for the paid version. I thought that you would like it when it was first suggested. I know that is how I would go if I had the opportunity. Happy that you will give it a try.

I'm happy to hear you're at least going to give it a try - then you'll know how each performs and can make the decision that is right for you. Personally, I use Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise (2010 no longer offers anything equivalent and I see no reason to upgrade and the version I have also contains many more programs than OpenOffice and since I already own it, it's not like I'd be saving a lot of money by changing) - but that's just my individual choice. Where there are overlapping programs, they are very similar to each other - but there are some differences and you'll learn them as you try them. The important thing is to give them both a try and then make an informed choice considering all the factors.
