I've encountered the same error discussed here whilst installing an update to Vista: http://www.coredatarecovery.com/upd...39894614-registrymachinecomponentsderiveddat/
I want to try and recover the system as described, but I don't really understand the steps. My questions are:
1. I don't have a blank CD - is it ok to use a flash instead? Then, how do you actually boot from the CD/flash?
2. I don't understand points 1 - 3. Can someone explain it more simply?
3. Should I back up my files when I am using Linux, or wait
4. This error seems to have been known for years, yet I only just downloaded the pack now - how come windows haven't fixed it? Aren't updates supposed to improve things?!
(I noticed it came up here this year but the suggested method doesn't work as system restore is screwed over and I really don't want to lose all my files http://www.vistax64.com/windows-upd...-message-sp1-installed-froze-no-movement.html )
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
