32 and 64 bit

Trying to help out a fellow senior who lost his hard drive.
processor label on front of machine says 64bit
he does not have his recovery cd's
I have a unused 32bit Vista Home Premium dvd
would it do a clean install on his machine?
I have done clean installs in the past with upgrade versions but am not sure if the 32bit dvd would install on his 64bit processor.
the rest of his desktop seems compatible as to processor of 1.9ghz and 1gig of memory and 80gig hard drive.
thank You
Larry

Hello shipinomore,
I would of thought, if you format the drive first, then it should take the x32bit OS.
The amount of ram available is a bit low, so it may run a bit slow, have you thought about installing XP ?.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

I would install xp but he does not have his cd's. We will be able to add another gig of memory but want to see it installed first. have to add the new drive thru bios as I forgot that yesterday. I do have have new upgrade versions of Windows 7 but would like to keep them for my desktops back home.
thanks again.

In that case, you should be good to go after installing the new HDD, format it first and install the OS.
The extra ram is a very good idea.
