32bit vs 64bit

Is there a big difference it the two? Would I really benefit with a switch to 64? What I have found out so far is that 64bit is better for graphics and video and not so much for applications. I just got my system in Feb of 2008, Vista 32bit, HP media center m8300f w/tv tuner, 3gigs ram, 640gigs hdd, 3.0ghtz AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ processor. I couldn't pass it up as it was a bundled deal w/monitor(HP) and a all-in-one printer (HP).

Hi Bassfisher,

If you have 64 bit versions of your device drivers, then yes you would benefit from using 64 bit vs 32 bit. Since the computer is new, you should have these versions available to download from the computer manufacturer's website.

Here's something to read that can help explain the differences in more detail:

Hope this helps,
Shawn

monitor is a HPw1907 lcd (19") and the printer is a HP desk jet F4180 all in one print, scan, copy. Priced individually I would have spent $1250.00 but paid... wait for it.... wait for it....$850.00. That was piecing it from best buy, walmart and circuit city. who every had the cheapest part.
