Like i said should i get the 8600GT that has 512 MB but runs on ddr2 or should i get the 8600GT that has 256MB that runs on ddr3.

and that too im looking to sli the two cards . what should i get??
2 of which one??

pls help

My Computer

Instead of SLI , why dont you buy the 8800GT.
I think it will more or less match the performance(even better it) of 2 X 8600GT (512,256 wont matter much).
If you are looking to buy a single card then check the price difference, although i think 256MB of GDDR3 would be better than 512 MB of DDR2

im sorry..
i could not find my previous thread so i thought i forgot to submit it after ytping and all hehehe my bad wont happen again sorry.

anyway the price difference isnt much at all..... im gonna run my q6600 on 3.5Ghz so itnt it better to buy two 8600GT 512 MB(ddr2) ?

and one more thing say i buy the 8600GT 256MB(ddr3) and SLI two of them, will it beat the performance of the 8800GT?? or any other card of 512MB on GDDR3??

Oh yeah asky the 8800GT is Rs.15000 while 2 of any 8600GT wont go more than Rs11000

My Computer

For the price - a single 8800GT is going to be your best bet. The hard part is finding one, tho..

Indeed. A single 8800 GT will be a better solution for you. Theoretically, it should be equal or greater performance than SLI'd 8600s. Also, a single card will draw less power, create less heat. Hope this helps!

Yeah one 8800GT would be the best option. I got one from Dell for $207 ($222 shipping/tax) too bad they're telling me its delayed until Jan.

I got lucky when I got mine. I visited the EVGA site first and foremost. They sell direct and not many people know that. Keep an eye out there for first availability.

My Computer

I would still go for 8800GT as these Guys say.
BTW Which Motherboard do you have ?

THANX to you all. now i really made up my mind..... im going with the 8800GT well ill have to shell out Rs2000 more but still atleast ill be able to play crysis and bioshock on hi-res right?

thank you guys

My Computer

Oh sorry asky i dint see ur msg...
i ahve the asus p5kc....i chose this motherboard over the asus P5K3 deluxe which i think is too overpriced
any suggestions there??

My Computer

on the Asus P5KC i dont think 2 X8600Gt SLi would have worked , SLI needs an Nvidia Chipset.
The single 8800GT should work fine.

P5KC is a decent MB ,DDR2+DDR3 both rite? DDR3 is very expensive now , buy P5KC with DDR2 Mem.
P5K3 is DDR3 only.

yeah thats right....thats another reason i dont go for the P5K3 deluxe....
man can u believe it 2GB of ddr3 ram is Rs.20000 and my 4GB costs just 3800 oof!!

mani just calculated. if im buying all the parts of my computer from the US it will cost me Rs.10000 cheaper

My Computer

hey and asky im gonna put a heatsink called cooler master the dealer says its a good cooler and i should be able to be stable at 3.5Ghz without a problem...
what should be my ideal power supply...?

Man hope im not nagging u with questions hehehe

My Computer

What is your Budget for Power Supply ?
If you are getting 8800GT better get a good one like Corsair HX520/HX620 (Depending on budget).the HX620 is around 7K i guess.

Also i am not quite sure about tht cooler master cooler.i would stay away from it adn buy the thermalright one ( or stick to the stock cooler for some time)

hmmmm.... 7k for just power supply?????
well certainly i dont wanna embaress myself by announcing my budget then hehehe.
on the other hand i think ill refrain from overclocking until i can get my hands on a thermalright

My Computer

hehe no probs, yep 7K for PSU Alone.
But if you are going for Q6600 + 8800GT + other Stuff(HDDs,Optical Drives etc etc) i suggest a very good and stable PSU.
Remember NEVER skimp on the PSU.
Not to scare you but if you end up buying a generic PSU it can conk off anytime taking with it all the hardware you bought ! am sure you dont wanna risk that.

I am not telling you to spend 7K and get tht PSU but buy a decent one ,atleast 500W of a good company (Powersafe,Seventeam etc)
