when i try to log on my laptop it gives me a msg saying that an unauthorized change was made to windows click here for details and Close . what im wondering is how to i go about fixing this problem should i just wipe my laptop or is there a fix or sumthing i can do...... any help would be great..

Hello brandonmilam18 and welcome to the forums

Firstly I would like to ask how recent this problem is?

Secondly I would like you to do a few things for me please:

SFC Scan:

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. Right click on command prompt and select run as administrator
4. In command prompt, type:

sfc /scannow

Malwarebytes Scan

1. Download malwarebytes:

Malwarebytes

2. Install it
3. Run a full scan
4. Upload the log with your next post

DDS Scan

1. Download DDS:

What the Tech -> Download Manager -> Malware Removal -> dds.scr

2. Run it
3. Upload the two text files that will be opened when it finishes with your next post (attach.txt and dds.txt)

Thanks for the rep Josh, you have put me 14 points short of getting my first gold dot on my rep power I was beginning to realise how I was writing the same instructions over and over again, so I am writing them all out into a word document so I can copy and paste the instructions and links easily.

Can you use safe mode to login?

If so try for a system restore.

If you do decide to 'wipe' the PC and do a clean install, have a look at the tutorial at the link below, this method completely over-writes everything (good and bad) on the HDD so that you have a clean slate to install Windows to; be sure to post back so we'll know how it sorts out.

the problem started 4days ago and i can get on safe mode ive done defrag scans virus scans spyware scans and malwares scans and everything coms up clean

i have also done a system restore but i guess i didnt have it enabled and when it said it finished it restarted my comp and while it was booting up it shut down and i turned it back on and windows started up without the error msg but my task bar was gray and it wouldnt let me change anything so i rebooted again and the error problem came up again

what if its not the same vista disc that came with the laptop? i gota version of vista home 32bit the same as i have on the laptop that i paid for. laptop came with vista on it and i have no backup disc
