Accessing Deault Admin Share

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum but it looks like a great place.

I was wondering if anyone had found a solution to accessing the default admin shares (c$, d$, etc) on a vista machine over the network.

I've tried the solution mentioned here: http://www.vistax64.com/vista-networking-sharing/13053-default-admin-share-c.html

But it didn't fix anything.

I can access other non-admin shares on the computer but can't access any of the admin shares. I'd rather not have to create more shares, but obviously that is a solution.

I assume you went through the entire thread and tried all 2 (or 3) suggestions?

As John says the suggestions in the other post will work if followed exactly.

I often find a need to share a complete drive across a workgroup but have always found that the easiest,(and safest), method is to follow standard practice and share the drive. Unless you wish to enable the hidden administrator on all involved machines the use of the C$ share name is not allowed in vista, By using any other share name, ( I normally use "System Drive" or similar), it is possible to share the complete drive and retain full control of the permissions on the drive.

Just personal experience but hope it helps

Thanks guys.

I tried editing the registry and rebooting but that didn't help.

I haven't tried enabling the administrator account but will try that. Anyone have a link to instructions for that?
