My PSU is a Ultra LSP 750 watt Pro Lifetime series...

The graphics card I was going to install is the ATI Radeon HD 4890... what are some graphics cards i can use with a acpi x86 based pc, or would my best bet be to but a different motherboard being a pci express based pc and just returning the one i have now?

Thanks,

Ben

Hello Buck39,
ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) is an open industry specification.
Can you confirm the exact model of your MB, the specs i have seen on this board are that it is crossfire compatible.
Having a closer look at this picture the orange and yellow slots are the video slots.
Anyhoo, if this is your MB, it will take the card you have.

If this is not your board, please supply the model and number
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

Hi no, that is not my motherboad, but my motherboard won't read it... The power will kick the graphics card on, but the mobo will not recognize it, so it won't allow me to use the cd that came with the graphics card the way it should be used... So again it will power up the gc, but cannot see it in the device manager, so it is not recognized. I would like to get this up and running so some help please ....... My mobo model number TA790GXE

Thanks

You may have to go into the Bios to set this up, consult you MB manual to make sure the Bios is set for the video card.
If this MB has onboard graphics, make sure they are disabled.
Also, are you using both power leads to the video card ?.
When you get the card running don't use the drivers on the disk, (they will be older than you), follow this link and download the latest drivers.

Ok first of all what do you mean set up the bios for the video card, second, my mobo didn't come with anything to help me with the bios... I looked on the Internet for one, which I found, but didn't explain anything. Third if you mean the two 6 pin power plugs, then yes... The driver download was not a sucess, because my video card is not seen/recognized by the mobo....

Please help
Thanks,
ben

Before we go any further we need to establish what MB you have, (so we don't break anything) the picture above is of a TA790GXE, but you say thats not your MB ?.

BIOSTAR :: TA790GXE :: Overview

Please check and let us know, if you can find a link to your MB then insert it with your next post, thanks.

If it turns out to be your board, go to the Bios and make sure that the primary display adaptor is your PCI video card, also check that the plug & play option is checked.
You really need to find a manual for your board.

The one above, had the sata ports in different locations and some other stuff, but the one you posted in the overview, that is it...
show_pic.php
the picture was at the overview you provided (if you cant see the picture) BIOSTAR :: TA790GXE :: Overview... ok and with the bios, i am farily intuitive with them, but i cannot find any thing relating to a primary display adapter, i will change the plug n' play option after this post

Lastly it did come with a manual, but it doesnt explain how to do things, it just shows you where things are

My Computer

You have probably done this, but, can you confirm that the MB chipset drivers have been loaded from the MB DVD/CD,thanks.

BUCK... There's a reason we read the motherboard manuals... :)

I will help you this time...

When you purchased your motherboard, you should have gotten a little paddle card. That little card goes in the top PCI-Express x16 Slot. The Graphics Card goes in the Bottom PCI-E x16 Slot. Make sure you have the 4-pin power adaptor connected above the Top Most Slot for the best power to your cards. GOOD LUCK AND READ THE MANUAL!!! I have the same board >.<

Ok First of all my motherboard didnt come with "a little paddle card", and my motherboard has only one pci-e x16 slot. Also the manual tells you jack sh*t

My Computer

Do you have access to another PC to try the card on, maybe a friends PC, just to eliminate the card, one way or another.

Sorry - Similar Model Number here... I assumed it had 2 PCI-E Slots. Do you have your monitor plugged into the graphics card or is it plugged into the motherboard? Did you disable interal display in BIOS?

when i go into bios it doesnt have anything that says to disable the internal display, unless im missing it, i have my moniter plugged into the motherboard, because no picture is showing up w/ it plugged into the graphics card.

My Computer

Is the 6-pin power connector for the card plugged in?
