Adminstrator login issues

I have a compaq presario c770US laptop with Windows Vista Premium Home Edition with service pack 1.
2GB ram
32 bit
Intel Dual Core

I've had it since Mid 2008.

Last night I accidentally clicked "Hibernate" instead of "Shut Down" as I intended. It was late, so I turned off my laptop by holding the power button. I went to sleep, and when I woke up, I was not able to login into my administrator account.

I'm on a guest account right now. There are no issues, except for the of course limited access to files (Including some homework I need to turn in). The computer boots fine, but when I put my password in for my admin account, all I see is welcome, and the loading circle just keeps spinning.

I tried this a few times, and I then decided to give it some time to login. I went to get my haircut over a period of an hour with the hope that it would login, but I was unsuccessful. I've been searching a few threads, and looked at a few ideas, but so far I haven't been able to do anything that requires an administrator. I put in the correct password, and it either takes time to do nothing, or it completely freezes up.

I don't know if this will help but one thread said for me to type "net user administrator /active" in the command prompt, but I got an error message saying "System error 5 has occured. Access denied." I have also tried to scan using the command prompt, but have been unsuccessful.

A few months ago I did have a short period (One day) where I was having trouble logging into the guest account I have. The reply was "Cannot login into account," but I was still able to login into my admin account. It subsided without any further action though.

Thank you for any replies.

try doing a clean boot: go into msconfig, startup tab, disable everything, services tab, disable all of the services that are not windows core services, press apply/ok. restart the computer, and if it boots, enable everything that you disabled 1 by 1, and if something that you enable triggers it to freeze during startup, thats ur culprit.

Thanks, but I can't do that either. Opening msconfig involves putting a password in, and that causes it to freeze as well. Regardless of mode.

Solved it. Just putting up a reference.
Somehow the admin password was disabled or in some sort of mixed state where it will accept input (Rather than saying it's incorrect) but then freeze.

I pressed f10 and added the password in the bios. Still having some rockiness, but this part of the issue is done.
