Are you upgrading to 7?

Sticking with Vista for the moment, it runs fine and fast for me.
Now I have worked out some of the finer points I see no reason to upgrade yet.
If I do another build (not for a while) then I will build the new PC around the Windows 7 software.:)

Hello Roy,

A sensible plan, In the real world very few people change their OS for the "fun" of it, but when they have to, either because they are upgrading hardware, or they have software that is only compatible with the new OS.

As I support other users who will be getting Windows 7 on new hardware when it's released, I feel I need to be familiar with the software to better do my job.

No one, I believe, buy's a PC due to the operating system but for what they can do with the PC, they want to surf the web, write letters, play music, and so on, The OS merely lets them do this.

I find that windows 7 allows me to do this better that Vista or XP so I will have no issue with recommending it to a customer who asks should they use it.

It is always good to have the same OS as the customers. Do you use a test rig with different OS multiboot or is it your main machine you will be using the new OS on?

The only reason I upgraded to Vista was because I did a new build last year and I knew some of the software would benifit from Vista.

I can not see that much difference between Vista and 7 in terms of speed. I may be wrong as I have been going through the benchmarks from a high street magazine.

Hi Roy,

I multiboot on my main machine, I've got Vista, x86 7 7000, (Actually running official telemetry to MS), x64 7057, and x64 Ubuntu Linux :o, at the moment, but was normally just XP & Vista, until 7 came out,

Have vista on a laptop, and XP on another test box, and quite often have other client machines with whatever running during rebuilds / repairs around so get plenty of practice

As for the speed thing I think you're right in that putting a stopwatch wouldn't show anything significant, but I find the Seven just feels snapier, and I do find myself using it by preference.

Benchmarks at the moment I do not take much notice of as the Beta code still contains a few debugging routines, and I always thing it's the personal perception that matters anyway
