Audio won't work.

Please don't mix things up. I asked you to do a clean boot using msconfig.exe by hiding all the Microsoft services and then clicking on Disable. This disabled all services except the Microsoft services. However, I asked you to go back to msconfig.exe and uncheck all three boxes (including the Startup items). You said you did that.

What I was referring to with regards to starting the Windows Audio Endpoint Service was, when you go into the Control Panel, Administrative Tools and click Services, you should restart the Windows Audio Endpoint Service as well as the Windows Audio service. The latter won't work without the former enabled.

I did the hiding all Microsoft services and disabled them then went back and restored them but never knew I had to do anything else from what you said. What 3 boxes was I supposed to uncheck?

I restarted both the speaker on the tool bar showed like it was working went to play audio and it came up with a box saying "Windows Audio has stopped working" again. Went back to Services and it showed Windows Audio as stopped. Tried restarting it several times to the same result.

Try setting the startup type to automatic for both then restart your computer
Right click each and select properties
A drop down box will open with the option there to set it to automatic
Restart

Edit; To get to services you can press the windows key and R
Then type services.msc
Press enter

When you run msconfig.exe, In the Services tab, there is a checkbox for Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable All. In the Startup tab, there is a box for Disable All. Those are the three boxes you checkmarked the first time you ran it and those are the same three boxes which should be unchecked after you ran it.

I need to create a screenshot for the Services folder.

When you open control panel, administrative tools, services, the two services circled in red have to be running in order for your audio to work.

Yeah I did all that and the ones you have circled are the ones I restarted and show started and automatic but when I open audio they turn right back off again.

That's very strange.

I don't have time to review this entire thread since I'm working another forum.

In Control Panel, select Sound. Open Playback. Please provide a screenshot.

Does this do it without the headphones installed? Somebody smarter than me talked about having to change something in Vista when using headphones and then removing them in another thread. I don't have time to chase that thread.

If you right click on the speaker and headphone and select configure or test, do you get an error?

Well, you didn't get an error.

I assume you have the volume turned up when you test or try to play something.

I guess you're still getting the original error after you've restarted the Windows Audio settings and then try to listen.

Personally, I find Sound to be one of the most mysterious of things in Windows. I've had my share of problems with it and that's just with speakers.

Yeah volume is all the way up.

Guess I need to take to someone or just get a new labtop.

They all were started the Windows RPC was set to automatic and I changed it but still didn't seem to fix the problem.

If you didn't receive any discs when you purchased your laptop, go to the vendors' support website and look for drivers for your specific model. Download and run the audio driver installation file.
