Keep getting error code 0x8000FFF when trying to backup system. Here's what I am doing. Under system and maintenance I click on Back Up Files. The back up files window open and starts "Creating a shawdow copy. The progression bar starts and then I get an error window saying Catastrophic Failure 0x8000FFF. Don't know what to do now.

Thanks for any and all help.

It worked for at least one poster.

If you find that you cannot correct the problem, may I suggest the use of alternative backup. Quite a few members here use and recommend Macrium Reflect a free software for backups
If you decide to go that route, and have questions, I will make available the forum expert on Macrium.

Thanks but unfortunately it didn't work. GWP1945 post read ......"Start, right click Computer, Manage; select Service. Services and Applications, Volume Shadow Service, and set the service to "Automatic"......where do you find or see Computer? Oviously I can't get started.

In lindamoran57 post ....Lo and behold, it didn't work until I did a successful chkdsk....not sure how to do a chkdsk. I know I have seen this before but can't remember where or how to do it.

MrScoresby.....1) Restart your computer 2) Press F8 before the Windows logo appears....Pressing F8 did nothing so oviously I can't attempt his process.

Sorry to sound dumb but some of us aren't as computer literate as others.

Thanks
