bad_pool_caller

Last night I was on the World WILD Web and suddenly the blue screen came up . . . Uh-Oh! Well, I can't read the whole page and whatever it tells me that I wouldn't understand anyway, but I did see bad_pool_caller, and I'd greatly appreciate some help today getting it back to normal.

I can't seem to get into system restore . . .

Aside from this, I have other issues, and have posted looking for help - that may or probably don't have anything to do with this latest problem.

Not able to do it, tried and the screen went to blue again, with a message I can't read. Then it comes back up with options for safe mode.

I can't use that option because I can't connect to a network as an administrator, so I don't know what to do. I guess this means I have to take my laptop somewhere for them to help me. Unless you can suggest something, thanks anyway, cause I'm stuck.

I've been told via phone, that my system will need to be reloaded in order to fix this problem. Can someone tell me if this is true?

With no Minidump file, its hard to say what is causing the problem.
It could be a driver, or it could be a memory problem.
I would remove any peripherals you may have attached to your PC.
Go in to safe mode and remove any new software installations.
As for the hardware, remove all the ram sticks and try one at a time.
Have you installed any new hardware/software ?.
As for a re-install, if it is software, then yes, but if it turns out to be hardware, then it will be a waste of time.

The only thing that was new was a USB mouse, and I easily switched that out. I ran the memory check and nothing was found, and don't know what else I can do with the restrictions I have between the administrator and user account - can't go online to use safe mode with networking.

Un-install the mouse driver, you may need to go to the Device Manager to do this.
What disk do you have, do you have a Vista disk or is it a recovery disk ?.

A similar thing happened to my wife recently, she was just cruising the web, her usual sites, and the system crashed. I was able to boot normally when I tried the next morning, but in troubleshooting, trying to get to a Restore Point (which it couldn't find!) the system became unbootable. My only recourse was to use Macrium Reflect Free to restore an image I, thank God, recently created. If you don't have such a backup image your only recourse might be reinstallation.

Unfortunately reboot didn't reinstall mouse. The touch pad does work briefly, BUT then it hangs up, AND the laptop - which is normally set to go online, doesn't . . . Now what?

Mouse working. No yellow triangles on Device Manager. Ran Chkdsk and nothing found wrong. Still can't stay online when I open the browser - get the blue screen and bad_pool_caller message.

Other issues I have: Had AVG installed without realizing Microsoft Security Essentials also on system. Removed AVG, but can't do anything about MSE - won't run, can't delete (says I don't have access!), plus for a few weeks I've been getting a message upon startup that I can't identify or associate with anything. I don't have it right now, but it's a Windows Cannot Find message.

I'm lucky to have my desktop to be able to communicate with you, but I don't know enough to keep going in circles, and it's only adding to my frustration that I can't give you what you're asking in order to help me properly. I greatly appreciate your patience and attempt to help me, but it seems I'm doomed and will have to go get someone to put their hands on it and hopefully fix it without me losing everything. I'm feeling sick about it, but totally and absolutely helpless. Anyway, thanks again.

How do you connect to the internet ?.
If you can stay on long enough, disable all the Add-ons.
Go to Tools > Manage Add-ons and disable from there.

It's DSL connection, with wireless connection for the laptop.

I just opened the browser, but was only able to select Tools before the blue screen popped up. I missed the top part of the message, but the rest of the full page says

"If that doesn't reveal the corrpting driver, try enabling special pool. Both of these features are intended to catch the corruption at an earlier point where the offending driver can be identified."

Then goes on to say use F8 for Advanced Startup options, then select safe mode.

Alright, disabled all. Browser still open, and screen saver actually came on after awhile when I had to go outside! What's the next step?

No internet connection though.
