I have a HP G60 laptop. When I power up, I just get a black screen and a single cursor that doesn't blink. I doesn't even show the the logo for windows or HP / Compac. No buttons respond, except cntrl.alt.del. and that just flashes the screen for a moment, then back to the black screen again. I would send you more specs but I can't get to them. Thank you in advance for your time.

If you don't see the HP logo, then you've probably got a video problem (although other things can cause this).
Start by trying an external monitor on the computer to see if you can see the HP logo when it boots.

Beyond that there's not much else that you can do. Maybe take it to a local shop for an estimate?

The OP stated that he has a cursor it just doesn't blink. That said I doubt that it is graphics and more than likely either memory or the motherboard. Are you getting a beep? More than likely you should be. If it appears that your cd-rom is functional I would use memtest86 to test it. Otherwise a shop might be able to help more than us because they should have tests they can run.
