blue screen

Hi

I have a Toshiba laptop using Vista Premium. A couple of times my screen turned blue for no reason. When there is no activity on the computer, it will turn to Sleep mode. On two occasions I went back and was browsing through the internet with my mouse and twice the blue screen appeared for no reason. I had to turn off the computer as the blue screen remained. Any reason for the blue screen??? thanks

Just blank blue? No large white lettered warnings on errors? If there are errors listed, then it is BSOD

That Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) always scares the heck out of me. I never allowed it to dump stuffs and therefore I never learned how to know what the heck is wrrong. But it seems to come up for some reason. Never for "no reason"

If no message and just a blank friendly blue screen, then your windows is freezing....usually from minor prob. Start with disabling some add ons = SSVHelper Class and BHO class. If need be, try the others...one at a time till you get the bad one and make sure you re-enable the good ones when done.

In addition to what coolnewyorker said, if you're saying it goes to sleep mode and you don't want it to, then you can change this in power options. And the related links inside the tutorial.

As to your blue screen, you might have some problem with your graphics. See if there is an update for your graphics. You can check in the Device Manager, Event Viewer and run a system health report to see if it shows you any problems.

Either that or power option was set to turn screen display off after a certain period of inactivity, much shorter when unplugged (by default ).

I just watched a video on Facebook and after 3 minutes the blue screen appeared. I went to Device Manager but where do i find the graphic driver so that I can update it?

regarding disabling Add-ons, I could not find any SSV Helper - what are the types of Add-ons I should remove? thanks again

You would find the graphics under Display adapters in Device manager, right click it and click update but it probably won't from windows. You'll have to find out what the exact name of the graphics card is and go to the manufacturers site to see if there's an update. You can disable all add ons in IE to test it but you wouldn't be able to view videos as it would disable adobe flash and java.

Go to start menu-accessories-system tools-Internet explorer no add ons.

If it's firefox then there should be an option in the start menu to run firefox safe mode.
