I am getting lots of critical errors in the event viewer. Event ID = 100, 200, 400, 307, 402.... (Below are the details for a couple of them). I have seen several posts on the web for this issue but no solutions. It seems to be an issue that affects a lot of vista installs on all different pc / laptops. I'm running an IBM (lenovo) T61 laptop. I don't know if these issues are related but frequently when I reboot the laptop it will hang during the boot up. When this happens I need to Hard Boot the laptop, I will then get the message that windows did not shut down correctly and asks to 1) run a repair restore or 2) boot window normal. Sometimes I need to do this several times before it will boot up. I’m afraid the day is coming where it will not boot up at all.

I would appreciate any information someone might have.

Thanks...

I fear you are close to a catastrophic Windows Crash, Which may or may not allow you to recover and boot into Windows.
I suggest You Use Vista File Backup Ultility right now and back up your User Data, then Reformat/Restall Windows ASAP. It is hard to tell what is causing the critical performance issues, but you can check here. If it is a hardware issue , Reinstalling Vista will not fix it.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html?ltr=R

Start> in search type, perfmon > click the program, click "continue"> Click "Reliability Monitor" to see what Software/Hardware issues are occurring

Ps- Do Not Use Registry Cleaners, Get Yourself a good Antivirus Program, Use Windows Defender, and ALWAYS use UAC, and maybe, if this is software related, it will not occur again.
