I need to fix this problem ASAP. It always happens when I try to play a game or watch a video. I have attached the minidump file.
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit
System Manufacturer: Gateway
Model: T-1628
Type: x86 based
Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology

Very little RAM free - I suggest upgrading to 3 or 4 gB as soon as you can afford it.

The memory dumps point to networking issues - but aren't specific as to which.
I did notice a reference in MSINFO32 to a thing called XTrap - a game protection system from here: Xtrap: Things you should know! - Outspark Forums
Lot's of problems with it when I searched google for it.

So, I'd suggest first removing XTrap, and replacing it with a current copy.
Lot's of Norton and lot's of PCTools in the memory dumps. While this isn't necessarily a problem, it can be - and each of them can be involved with networking issues.

Interestingly, you have a driver named secdrv.sys that dates from 2002 - yet this driver is known to be dated from 2006 for all Vista systems that I've seen. Please visit Windows Update and get all available updates for your system.

Please run SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and let us know the results.

After running SFC.EXE as described above, if the problems continue - please run Driver Verifier according to the instructions here: Driver Verifier Settings

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

My Computer

I am performing the sfc/scannow and can the amount of pctools/norton dump files be due to a recent virus i had? becuase it installed malicious software and i eventually got rid of it. I will try to replace xtrap or even remove it.

My Computer

System One

  • Manufacturer/Model
    Gateway T-1628
    CPU
    AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology tl-60 2 cpus
    Motherboard
    BIOS Version 90.03
    Memory
    2430 Mb Ram
    Graphics Card(s)
    ATI Radeon X1200
    Sound Card
    Sigmatel High Definition
    Monitor(s) Displays
    ATI Radeon X1200 series
Cbs files attached

I have attached the CBS files from the sfc/scannow. When i ran it it said it found corrupt files but were unable to fix some of them. I also removed Crossfire(game that had xtrap) so xtrap is now not on my computer. I did windows update but the files that came up were just security updates and none were updating the driver. When i read the driver verification i feel that it is kind of risky.

Risks vs. rewards. It's your system, so you choose whether to run Driver Verifier or not.
I wrote the instructions to be very daunting - as there have been instances of people not being able to get back into Windows.

As for the virus infection, they can cause damage to the system that the removal tools don't fix - so be aware that although the virus may be gone, that doesn't mean that the problems it caused are gone.

CBS log shows lot's of fixes were made. If the BSOD's continue, please upload them and we'll see what we can find.

My Computer

I also have a question about the secdrv.sys driver. Does it need to be replaced or updated? Also how would i be able to fix the problems still lingering from the virus? I had one bsod today but its happening less than before. Now i could open up a video and run it for around 10-15 minutes straight before it went to the blue screen.

secdrv.sys is handled by Windows Update. Just get all Wndows Updates and don't worry about it otherwise. Security updates update drivers also, so it's essential to get them all.

There are different repair procedures for repairing the damage done by a virus. They include sfc.exe, repair install, subinacl, etc

In most cases you can remove virus' by yourself and be fairly successful. BUT, there are those virus' that cause greater damage to the OS and require the attention of an anti-malware expert (which I am not).

Let's see if you get any further BSOD's and we'll move on from there.

I've found that the fix for some of these viruses is to do a system restore. Before I figured that out, I was jumping through hoops trying to remove one stinking virus.

I dont think my virus wasn't that simple as to do a system restore. I forgot the name of the trojan but it basically installed a malware known as SMART HDD which basically locked my comp from installing programs such as malwarebytes but i basically just entered safe mode and installed that and pctools and was able to get rid of my virus. But all of the start programs were hidden and i still have to manually put them back into the all programs list.
**but i still need someone too look at that minidump file which has the information from the driver verification test*
The second i rebooted my computer after putting in verifier, the blue screen came on and it said something about a corrupted driver. I would like to know what that driver is.

Looks like PCTools to me - but I also suspect that it's a conflict between the firewalls on Norton 360 and PCTools (I wasn't aware that PCTools had a firewall app built-in). Just FYI - NEVER run 2 antivirus programs or 2 firewall programs at the same time.

Don't forget to turn Driver Verifier off. To do this, open up Verifier, select "Delete existing settings", click on "Finish" and then reboot the system.

Uninstall PCTools and leave Norton alone.
Use this manual uninstall method to ensure that all traces of PCTools are gone: Uninstall PCTools problems

If BSOD's continue - uninstall Norton, use the Norton Removal Tool to remove any traces.
Then IMMEDIATELY download/install/update a free antivirus (some suggestions are here: Free AntiVirus (also check to make sure that the Windows Firewall is enabled after removing Norton).

Further info on BSOD error messages available at: http://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs
