Hi,

I've been getting BSOD frequently these days and have no clue on what the issue. I'm hoping the experts here can help me fix the problem. The first time I got the BSOD was when I was watching a movie online a couple of months ago. Since then atleast once a week but in the past week, I'm having this issue every day.

Attached is the minidmp file, as required. Appreciate your help !!

The reports that you have submitted reveal clues to the cause of your problem. They do not give a definitive answer. The more reports that we receive the more clues are made available improving our chances of finding a solution to your problem. Each remedy suggested must be performed regardless of placement in this report or other variables. You may have to experience several more BSODs until the final answer is discovered.

Update outdated listed drivers. If I have inadvertently listed any Microsoft Drivers, they can be ignored.
How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to

Your very welcome.
If the BSODs return, just post. Many times it takes several BSODs to find all the causes.

Rich, you were so right. Turned out I did'nt have to wait that long for my next BSOD :( . Just got one a few minutes ago. Attached is the zip

Noticed my system has slowed down considerably today. I've installed Adaware and Snagit in the past 2 days. Also have been getting High CPU usage alerts frequently and file mentioned is svchost.exe. One of the svchost.exe processes uses almost 145000k

Thanks in advance

This one came out with a driver, again, but a different one. Rather than just guess which driver is the true cause, try the verifier test, if any drivers are corrupt, the test will weed it out.

STOP 0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Usual causes: Device driver

Driver Verifier Inst

Since the driver that crashed you has not been listed you should run driver verifier
Please run Verifier with these settings:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.
So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).
Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.
Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).
Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.
If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.
Enable the driver verifier

Hello!

Now that you have updated your graphics card driver, the next driver which needs to be updated is iastor.sys. This is from the Intel Matrix Device Storage Manager.

Please run this online tool: Intel® Driver Update Utility

and update any drivers which it says are out of date, and report back on the success of that. Also, what make and model is your computer (eg Dell XPS 420)

Thanks!

Richard

Hello Richard,

Thanks for your prompt response.

I have run the Intel Update utility. Wireless Networking and Wired Networking drivers were not current and have been updated now. The other drivers were reported as Unknown or Unsupported. Please see the screenshot of the page.

Mine is a HP Pavillion DV9700 Entertainment Laptop, Windows Vista 64 bit, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5750 @2.00GHz 2.00GHz, 17" screen, 3 GB RAM

Hope this info helps

Hi Rich,

The driver update showed that it was the latest, so I rolled back to older version of the Driver. Within a couple of hours, I got the frozen pixelated screen again. Attached is the latest mindump.

How do we update nvlddmkm.sys. Would appreciate if you can provide the steps. Googling did not help.

Thanks
