Can a PSU cause heat problems?

Alright, plugging it into the 4 prong got the RPM's at a constant 2290! Thanks for the idea.

However.. I'm still ideling with my cores at 53c+ as if the fan speed didn't make a bit of difference. UGHHH

With the blob method, how much paste exactly did you use? A pea size or a grain of rice size?

For quads, the best method is a thin vertical line applied in the middle and then twisting the heatsink back and forth to evenly spread it.


As you've gathered too much, or too little, will give poor temps.


You haven't adjusted the CPU voltage (vcore) by any chance?

well at least we figured out one issue.

now onto the next.

when i replaced mine i just rubbed the paste off my factory heat sink onto the new one and just set it on and wala. i run around 30 - 35 c, never applied any more.

no really i had just got it delivered and i installed the new fan heat sink before i turned it on. (even though they say they did a burn in on the computer, not sure how when all i ordered was the case, cpu, memory, and mobo)

back in the old days with AMD K6 300mhz cpu's, and IBM CYRIS cpu's. with dos 6.22 and WIN 3.11, also when a BBS was the main thing to have.

I never changed voltage, didn't know you really could. Heres a link to a picture of speedfan, it lists the voltages and temps. I hope one of you can spot a knot with this. At this point I don't really know what to ask or where to go.

We did the grain of rice size method, then put it on the cpu and took it off and looked. It spread just like we seen it on the few videos we watched.

Hello Exidium,
Are these temps idle temps or load temps ?, also what is the ambient temp at your location ?.
One thing i would check is that there is enough pressure being applied to the heatsink, i.e. it's being pushed down hard on to the CPU, in no way should it be loose.

Those were idle temps, The heatsink is mounted and really sturdy. Ambient temperature is 69f.

The max temp for your CPU is 71.4C, if under load it stays on or around 60C then i would go with that.
