Re: Can I GET SOME HELP

Right click on MY computer icon and select tools.
There will be an option saying disk cleanup or something similar, I am at work now so I can not see a Vista machine and tell you the exact syntax.

This will allow you to remove the temp folders and also give you other option for cleaning your C drive.

This will not give you alot of space back so you are better off backing up your pictures and documents to a cd or removing programs that you have not used for a long time.

2 things.

1 Update your system spec.
2 When asking a question instead of having a title like "needs help" or something similar make the title give us an idea of what is up.

Hello El Mejor,

In addition to the posts above, this will show you how to clear the temp folder.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/104637-temporary-files-temp-folder.html

However, since you are low on disk space, the only thing that really is going to save you space is to uninstall any programs that you do not use as well.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

While al of these responses were very helpful, the original question is asking about a different temp folder. It is located at C>Windows>temp. It is a different folder all together and after about 2 years of use on my laptop, mine is almost 5 gigs of drive space. I have often wondered too if the contents of this folder are safe to delete, but have left it untouched for fear that my system will not run properly or at all. That being said, I don't know the answer to the question and would also like to know, but I wanted to clear up that the original post was asking about a different temp folder. Does anyone know anything about this temp folder and whether or not it can be altered or cleaned up? Thanks!

My Computer

hello
you can empty the contents of the folder, but don't delete the folder itself.
although if you do the disk clean up it will delete these and more...

start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup, choose the drive you want to cleanup... hope this helps

CCleaner is a Good Cleaner and yes it is Safe to delete the Stuff INSIDE of the Folder but Do not delete the Folder itself

Just follow these steps

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/104637-temporary-files-temp-folder.html

1. Press the Windows key + R
2 Type in "%TEMP%" (Without speech marks)
3. Delete all of the contents

Be warned there maybe some files that you are unable to delete because it is in Use if
so then Just click Skip

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Another problem here is everytime after i uninstall a programme(for my case it is an Anti Virus programme), i notice that i still cannot get back all the space. It Seems like there is still unknown data hidden inside. How do i know which one and how can i clean them?
Thanks.

Allow me to set the cat amongst the chickens, and say that I hate CCleaner! It is not exactly bad, it does not exactly damage your system, it is safe, but I always find that it deletes all of the wrong stuff. I much prefer TFC, but that is just personal opinion. Canned speech below:

tfc_icon.png
TFC (Temp File Cleaner) - Downloadhttp://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe - Homepage
Why? This will remove unneeded temporary files from your system, make automated scans that follow run faster, and save you time. Many infections also load from a temporary file location.
  • Download TFC to your desktop, or other location.
  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
  • Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
  • If prompted, click "Yes" to reboot.
Save your work. TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted. It shouldn't take longer take a couple of minutes, and may only take a few seconds. Only if needed will you be prompted to reboot.

And, just to prove that I really know what I am doing with this program:

The only thing I didn't like about it, was the auto reboot.

Well, actually there is a way to override that lol. I didn't want the system to reboot either during testing so I built in an override and just commented it out for the released version. I uncommented that out and uploaded a new version but it is not visible at startup. If you want to use it for your own use then download the latest version and start the application. Double-click the title where it says "Temp File Cleaner" and a checkbox should appear next to the Start button that says "Skip Reboot." Check that box and then run the application. If the Skip Reboot box is checked TFC will NOT kill all running processes and will just clean out the temp files. Be aware that any temp files that cannot be deleted will still be set to be removed at the next reboot but you will be given the option to reboot or not. Click "No" when asked if you want to reboot and a reboot will not be forced. If you use this application on a forum DO NOT give this information to a user. When cleaning a system of malware if a reboot is required then the user should always reboot.

Cheers.

I use this too, I recommend its use before people do a HighJack This log as it makes the log a lot smaller.
It makes backups as well.

It doesn't make HiJackThis logs that much smaller. Old Timer makes a lot of tools, a lot more than most people realise. I think I got most of them:

OTL
OTS
OTA
OTM
OTC
OTCleanUp
OTViewIt
OTLPE
TFC

I find HJT too limited, and does nothing against most modern malware, what do you find?
