Im thinking of backing up my stuff, and reformatting.

OK this is how it went down.

I installed the update, and restarted my computer.

Then I shutdown my computer just incase so the update installed.

I saw immediate effect, the loading screen changed.

I quickly pressed F10 (BIOS CONFIG)

Still the 1st drive is my DVD/CD drive
2nd drive None
3rd drive is my hard drive

So, something is wrong, so I pressed f5 to set to system default
it restarted my computer, i pressed esc to load boot
checked DVD drive to boot first, but vista loaded instead

Before it would say, are you sure you want to boot into your DVD? press a key

but it doesnt even say that D:

looked across google for somethnig like this..
no hope

OK, set your hard drive as first boot priority and try it again.

It doesn't really sound stupid. The thing is, how did you make the DVD drive 1st boot priority? Go to the boot priority section and at the bottom of the screen, there should be a legend on what each controls mean. On my computer, the PLUS key moves a device up, and the MINUS key makes it go down in the list.

Exactly, same here. I can do the Linux command terminal, registry edits, file tweaks, and even some basic hacking (code, a little Java) but I cannot figure out how to install a hard drive with all the IDE wires and what not. I even get the drivers, not the hardware. Anyway, so what's the final decision are you backing up and reformatting?

No... there is a really cool website called hackthissite.org. It's totally LEGAL to hack, and they give you missions. You should try it out one day.

BTW, I'm not into video games (shocker, I know).

Have you checked your boot order in the BIOS? Most pc's that have the recovery partition on the HDD are designed to boot off the hard drive, and not off the disc in the optical drive.

Your HDD boot should be last, and your CD/DVD first:

USB Devices

Linux is for my server (host gator)-it looks like linux. I dont use it on my pc.

Send a screen shot of your BIOS Boot

If putting a disc in the optical drive, and restarting your pc doesnt give you the screen option "hit any key to boot from disk", then its somehow your boot order, OR it is a defective/improperly configured Optical drive.

[edit]
you can test the boot by making sure FDD is set before hard drive (HDD), and putting an exe program on the formatted flash thumbdrive and then restarting the pc. you should then get the "hit any Key..." message at boot as itll see it as a boot device just like your dvd drive.

If you do, then you have a bad Optical drive

If you dont, then your boot order isnt set properly to boot off anything before the HDD
