hey there well I did the whole "take ownership" and deleted most of the files that I needed to, but the files I had a problem with in the beginning are still there...and it wont let me delete them..Im trying to delete the "creative" product registration pop up...and I looked and sure enough theres the file for it right there and I cant delete it (even with the "take ownership")

seems to have been a glitch in Vista from the beginning, some files are just not deletable/renameable/movable. If you find this, you should be able to do those functions after a restart. If you are not able to restart at that time, you can quit and restart explorer, and that generally unlocks the file to delete etc.

1) right click the task bar
2) select task manager
3) click "Processes" tab
4) single click on explorer.exe in the far left "Image Name" column
4) click "End Process" button on the bottom right
5) click "Applications" tab on the top left
6) click "New Task" button on the bottom right
7) type "explorer.exe" (without the quotes) and click OK

This should resolve most issues of not being able to delete/rename/move files. . .

hey there, well Im having a problem yet again!!
Im getting soo mad at my computer....this one is to do with the unlocker...I used it and it worked..so i deleted it...and had to reinstall some some...one of them being Itunes...well Itunes wont start up without saying that the compatiblity isnt set right for the right version of windows...so I took the compatibility settings off (like the sign told me to do) and its still not working..and so I uninstalled it and reinstalled and same thing...ive checked everything on here to do with compatibility modes and nothing will work...also when I started up my computer it said something about the unlocker being the reason for the incompatibility.....BUT I DELETED THE UNLOCKER! What on earth do I do?!?!

My Computer

it says... "iTunes.exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows. For best results, turn off compatibility mode for iTunes before you open it."

and I turned off the compatability setting and deleted the unlocker

and I turned off the compatability setting and deleted the unlocker

Where did you turn off? Directly in the itunes properties or in the shortcut's properties?
I you turned off in the shortcut's properties, delete the shortcut, untick the compatibility mode in itunes.exe properties, then you can recreate the shortcut.

I don't understand why unlocker is involved in this matter?

Supergirl,

The free program Unlocker is another great utility to use with the 32 bit Vista only to help delete a hard to delete file.

UNLOCKER 1.8.7 BY CEDRICK 'NITCH' COLLOMB

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I´m having the same trouble. When I try to delete the file, it says "the action can´t be completed because the file is open in another program - close the file and try again"

I installed the unlocker, but it didn´t help, I closed explorer.exe, and restarted, but it didn´t help. I also change the ownership of the file, and tried to delete it in safe mode... nothing is working... It´s reeeeally starting to annoy me..

Hope someone can help.

My Computer

Why are you all trying to delete files that are locked by an application in the first place? If the file is in use, reboot into Safe mode and delete it - if it is still in use, then you might want to consider whether you should be deleting the file in the first place - In Safe Mode you're running on a small core set of drivers and software, and if the system is using it then, then it is either a very important file or else you've been infected - and improperly deleting infected files can render your system completely useless.

You *should* be checking first to see if the file is malicious or not. Randomly deleting files that look suspicious to you without research on what the file is is a *fast* track to hosing your system.

The file is a cd that my boyfriend sent to me, so I don´t think it´s an important file. And I know it´s not in use.

First I had a problem with unzipping it in vista, but got answers in this forum, so I saved it again on my desktop and everything worked well. Except that I still have the old one, and I must have ****ed it up when I was trying to unzip it, so it´s stuck.

I have tried to delete it in safe mode, but it doesn´t work. I don´t remember if it´s the same problem (in use) or not, but either way, it´s not going anywhere..

Hi there, thought I would chime in. If this is the Product Registration that keeps coming up even though you register and click do not show again fifty thousand times, then the solution is to go to Task Scheduler and remove it. Good ole microsoft has it set to pop up every 30 minutes.
