windows vista sp2, 32 bit, home premium.

everytime I try to download anything it says it is a virus and blocks it. this includes Microsoft security essentials from Microsoft, adobe flash, java, and windows updates.

security settings are default, no antivirus, just malwarebytes. there are no security toolbars

7up,

Can you boot to Safe Mode with Networking:
Tap the F8 key as your computer restarts, and before the Windows logo appears.
On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode with Networking, and press: Enter

Then, do the following:

Please download RogueKiller:
Tlcharger RogueKiller (Site Officiel)

When you get to the website, go to where it says:
(Download link) Lien de téléchargement:
rendu2.png

Select the version for your system (see Note)
Click the dark-blue button to download.
Save to the Desktop.

Close all windows and browsers.
Right-click the downloaded file and select: Run as Administrator

At the program console, wait for the prescan to finish. (Under Status, it says: Prescan finished.)
Press: SCAN

When done, a report opens on the Desktop: RKreport.txt

Please provide the RKreport.txt (Mode: Scan) in your reply.

Note:
To find out if the system is 32 or 64 bit:
Click: Start
Type System in the Start Search box
Click System in the Programs list.

The operating system is displayed under System > System type, and it shows:
64-bit Operating System
or,
32-bit Operating System

Sounds like a virus protecting itself. In addition to cottonball's suggestion I recommend a full malware scan with malwarebytes as well as an antivirus such as microsoft security essentials. Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

@townsbg,

That will be next, particularly, getting an AV program.

Need to get the ball rolling, though. It's a bear when you cannot download anything, however, we'll work around it. :geek:

If it's a virus then he should be able to download in safe mode with networking.

rkmnaholl,

Please start your own topic, and post the results of the tools you have run.

If what you mean is that you cannot download any of the tools mentioned, use another computer and a USB pendrive, load RogueKiller to it, and then move it to the Desktop of the infected computer.

If you cannot do the above in normal Windows, go to Safe Mode with Networking, and move RogueKiller from the USB pendrive to the Desktop of the infected computer.

Post back on the results.
