Can't Install or Update!

Hi all,

A little help please....

I am running Vista x64. My computer is a bit over a year old and all of a sudden as of a few weeks ago I am unable to install any programs or install any updates. Never had any problems before. I am not sure why this is happening but I don't have any viruses, that I know of. A virus scan is clear.

When I try to update I get an error code of 80200053

Any ideas?

Much appreciated...

Steve

Hi Steve

One of our brightest and best users JMH has asked me to give you a hand in diagnosing your problem. She has a heart of gold, is trust worthy, compassionate, one with great wit, and my all around best mate. Anthea commands and I obey.

I hope this repair is not easily resolved for I work well with her. Should she see this it is a demarkation point for other bread crumbs. VM's start here. PM's as well for the earliest. Check every where for there are many. LYMWW

Could you do me a favor and type event viewer in search. When there go to windows logs>application tab. Look for errors (red "X" in left column) that reference either app hang, app crash, or similar. there will be a bunch. When you fin the one that is most frequent/relevant note the Event ID and source codes.

If app doesnt give you anything you can also try the system tab.

You can also run a system file check to verify and repair your system files to run it
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin> SFC /SCANNOW

Let us know the results.

A year later and the journey is still being written. Perhaps a different path, perhaps a slight hiccup. Who knows, who cares. We exist.

Sorry for the wait:

..as for the Event Viewer

Most common:

Source:Application Error
ID:1000

Source: Application Hang
ID: 1002

There was also one of these, but it looked like it sounded important:

Source: ApplicationExperienceInfrastructure
ID: 2

For the Scan

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I appreciate any help you can offer

Thanks
