Can't seem to be able to install IE9

Greetings!

I've tried for the past two days to get this installed. No luck! The stall does it's thing then wants to reboot and I get a screen saying 3 of 3 updates and a percentage. That finishes and reboots on its own again. This time when the OS starts to come up it say 'Update unable to configure correctly' and then it reverts back automatically.

I took this action:

cd /d %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine
attrib -s -h *
del *.blf
del *.regtrans-ms

and then tried again. No luck! I re-did the above step then opened IE8 and disabled all the addons. Then tried to install IE9 again .. same thing.

I meet all the criteria to be able to install this.

Windows Vista 64 bit SP2
and my PC is up to date with all the updates as well!

Any ideas???

Tried doing it from MS site .. same results. And the second link resulted in the same results as well. I hate MS. Trust me if something better were out there I'd be using it!

I'm half way tempted to just uninstall IE8 and see what happens.

Tried just anti-virus before but it still failed. It still failed with both firewall and anti-virus disabled.

@Arvinwebb I've been there already. I met all the requirements on that page.

The disturbing thing is that once the system finally comes back up IE9 is NOT installed and the update history says it is! But is you do to 'Installed updates' its not in there.

Why couldn't MS just make this a simple installer?! OMG! So no, none of those solutions work!

That may be the problem. With System restore go back before the install date.
I think that if you try from the webpage, it will work, then.
It is sensed as being installed already. You cannot install twice.

Bah! Sys-restore wasn't on. I don't think it ever was and I'm pretty sure I never turned it off. Why would I?

Why do I feel like I should be putting stuff up to my external and breaking out the install disk *sigh*

Even though it 'says' it was successful it is NOT in the installed updates history.

Figure that one out!

Ensure that your OS is compatible with the IE 9 and no other application is conflicting with it. In most of the cases, the problem will not be a compatibility issue with the OS, but other applications or settings which may conflict with the installation of IE9. Another reason of problems with the source from where you are trying to install the IE9 can be avoided by using proper and genuine installation procedure. Make sure that the CD or the drive containing the setup is safe and not corrupted. If you are downloading it from the Internet, make sure that the firewall settings are accordingly set. If it is a virus issue, then you can avoid it by scanning your computer for viruses using a genuine antivirus software and then you can easily install the IE9. get more information and help to IE 9 installation hope this helps you.

I have disabled BOTH anti-virus and fire wall - FAIL

At this point is seems pretty pointless. And the OS is NOT telling me what is wrong! It'd be nice if it did the I could go in and correct what is wrong!

I did see that I have these errors in the system log every I've tried to install IE9. Although I have no idea what it means. I've attached the file from the event log. You'll have to change the .txt to .evtx to see it in event viewer. Strange!
