CD/DVD rom not working Please help

Ok I started having problems with my CD/DVD rom. It just stopped reading cd's but would still read DVD's but now it will not read anything. Its an lite-on 1693s. I tried putting a new CD/DVD rom in and it does the samething with that one so its not the CD/DVD rom. I read how to delete the upper and lower filters in the registry. I did that but i made a mistake. I deleted the files themseves so now there is no upper or lower filters listed in the registry for this device. Of course I did not back it up before I did this. So now the drive is worthless. I have the Vista (thats what I am running) upgrade disk but it will not read anything. It states that there is no media in the drive. I have checked so make sure there were no errors on the device manager and there is none. I am not sure what to do at this point I really need help with this. How or what can I do now? Thanks for all and any help
Mike

Welcome to Vista Forums.

If the sage advice given by Kenny does not work and the problem is fairly current, I would try a system restore.

Ok thanks guys! I tried doing all that and it still does not read. It show up in the device manager and it says its working fine. I also did a check to see if there was a newer driver for it and it stated it is using the newest one. I ran the auto fix and it said there was a problem but it could not fix it. I am at a lost of this! Thanks for any more help!
Mike

I checked the system restore points and the only ones listed are after I started having this problem.

You will need to run this again until it shows no files are corrupt.

It is a good feature, but lazy, it fixes one file at a time. Then gives that report. Do it several times, at least. I think that it will work. If you try several more time to no avail, we can talk about a reapir install.

I tried that and it will not boot from the CD/DVD because it can not see the disk in the drive. So does that leave me with SFC scannow as the only way to fix this??

My Computer

Does it tell witch files it can't repair? I have the same version(home premium 32bit) I can upload "any files" you need and install them that way!!...good luck

Can you confirm that the DVD/CD drive shows in the Bios, thanks.
Also, can you go to device manager, right click IDE ATAT/ATAPI, and choose scan for hardware changes.
