I was going to ask you how your getting on with Flashpoint 2, I'm not a big fan of squad based games, my team mates keep getting killed or getting me killed, how are you finding the one shot kill , and can you save at any point or is it checkpoints ?.

Well, that is not nice of them but yeah, as long as it was because they found a big bug at the end and they are working on it. God Forbid we get another Ubisoft Vegas 1 & 2 half finished products

I liked Cod4, played the Campaign quiet a few times but still, I found it a little run & gun and extremely condecesding (for lack of a better word at the moment) in the fact that I felt pushed or rushed to go from point A to point B

+ 10 on Operation Flashpoint... I have a thread going on on the Win 7 forums but, perhaps one is also needed here? I would love to hear your comments archie as for the moment, the little I played at a friends house, I didn't like much.

ok its not your average fps , in the single player you have a 3 man team (also in some multiplayer modes) for the most part you can leave them to do their own thing but if you do they will shoot at everything they see giving your position away and getting you shot to bits in the process from an enemy you never see :p

the game is based on realism but you can tone it down if you wish with lower difficulty settings all the settings do is the higher the level of difficulty the less help you get from the HUD (target position , distance etc)

your command console comes via a scenario based central rose you can bring up up at any time and by pressing your direction keys you can enter specific commands , if when bringing up the command rose you are pointing at a specific objective or for example an enemy village it will automatically bring to the front orders that are specific to that scenerio such as covering fire etc , if you are not pointing at anything specific it will bring up the standard rose (all orders can be accessed via this its quicker though doing the scenario method) you can also issue orders via the map if you cant see the target or if your trying to hide from a rampaging tank and want to send your heavy weapons guy in.

in short its really not that hard to pick up and play , i personally hate having to command a team but its fun in this game , you cant "run and gun" every scenario has to be planned and executed properly or youll get your arse kicked ;)

im hoping they will introduce dedicated servers as this game will rock online :)

i cant say if youll enjoy it or not but its only 18 quid on play ;)

it runs very well maxed out on my rig 2AA 50 fps

oh and its far from 1 shot 1 kill and you can have your medic patch you up or patch yourself up

Can you command your AI teammates to just RECON (ala Ghost Recon?), IIRC the only choices were to suppress, attack or hold fire.

also, what is the difference between the key bindings for Zoom and AIM? Can you toggle your AIM key? I hate to press and hold a key to aim or look through the scope.

When one of your teammates is driving the apc, can you make him follow the road? I was manning the mounted gun and it appeared the AI tried as hard as non humanly possible to drive through trees and such instead of keeping to the road.

Again, I only played it for less than 1 hour so I know I didn't give it its fair chance and I am sure that if I play for a bit again I will have more questions so... be prepared :p :D

yes you can command your team mates to "follow my lead" they will do as you do , recon / fire only when you do , you can also send orders to specific team menmbers deploying them to differant places doing differant things

i didnt even use zoom yet i thought it was for when loooking at the map :p

they do tend to drive all over the place , but apparently they are taking the best/most strategic route either that or its an AI bug they do tend to be a bit stupid sometimes ha ha

i would definately have a few hours at it , but if you dont like it after that your never going to its not for everyone this one , i didnt expect to like the songle player i bought it for the multiplayer but as they didnt see fit to include any dedicated server files this game is a lagfest online and if it doesnt get sorted the PC gaming community will drop te ame within a month imo

I don't recall seeing the "follow my Lead" option, I do recall a "Follow Me" option, which btw, is the one you start with as default but, they started firing from very far away at the enemy on the top of the hill close to the lighthouse.

I'll look that up next time I have a chance to play it.

You can also send orders to specific team menmbers deploying them to differant places doing differant things
Another thing that I couldn't do, even with the map... I guess I have to master all those Gazillion options they give you. :p

After the final mission on the Island, you are supposed to go back to the LZ and wait for pick up, well, I let one of them drive there and he got stuck more times between the trees or busted brick houses than I could count. Heck, right at the end, he got the apc sideways, making it impossible for me to shoot at the close by enemy. bottom line... I am now considered KIA :D

i would definately have a few hours at it , but if you dont like it after that your never going to its not for everyone this one , i didnt expect to like the songle player i bought it for the multiplayer but as they didnt see fit to include any dedicated server files this game is a lagfest online and if it doesnt get sorted the PC gaming community will drop te ame within a month imo
I want to give it its due time, more so because I have not been able to play any new games for such a long time. :sa:

Well, i have had four hours or so playing it, i think once you get used to the controls it's not too bad, i played the first mission four or five times, just to get used to the controls, I'm on the second one now, the night mission, it's a pity you only get one fire mission, i used it up almost straight away, then wished i had saved it for later.
I think it's going to be one of those games that grow on you, not tried on line yet though.
So far, so good.

I don't know if I asked this before or not but here it goes...

Can you TOGGLE the AIM option? I hate it that you have to press and hold the key to maintain the aim on the scope.

Ever since I can remember, I have use either the side mouse button (when the mouse only came with 3 or 4 usable buttons) or more recently, the Center tapping Left button (if you have a G7 or G9, you'll know what I am talking about) to Aim down the sights or use the Scope.

Since I need to keep that button pressed, it is hard for me to fire since I have always used the Left Mouse Button to fire.

I know, I know, I could easily try to bind another key for it but, dang it... almost all FPS game I have played have the option to Toggle this.

WOW, did we or did we not NUKED the initial post! sorry stoney-nutz :o Perhaps it would be best if you were to change the heading? :p

I've only played OFP for about an hour, but from initial impressions it feels like a dumbed down/arcadish arma. The weapon bob just looks awkward and wrong.

As for COD 2 being delayed, better 2 weeks than 2 months

yeah i thought the fire mssion was for that village and there would be more :p online is is a waste of time its a lagfest , some guys do a decent job of hosting but no ones connection is up to the job and NO anticheat!!??

Asta there is o aim toggle , but i have asked for it in the next patch (in the official forums) so have others so you never know.

Smarty , i disliked ArmA becuse it took the reality thing too far for me and i found it a bit clunky , i prfer this its more dumed down ;)

What, you call pressing twenty keys through an ever increasing array of confusing menus, just to give an order - clunky? :p

At least OFP:RD appears to be a finished product :)

I am ok with Realism but I strongly believe that ARMA I/II went WAY over the edge of even Reality with their game.

I like to call this kind of games (Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, OFP:DR) realistic but with a hint of game-isnm, otherwise, you begin to hate the game instead of enjoy it.

No, I do not want to get hit by a 120mm cannon shot and survive but I also don't want to be shot out of nowhere by a guy that is not even on the map :)

Thanks archie, I sinceraly hope that they make a patch for the Toggle. I don't really know how more people have not complained about it.

Just like the Command thingy, once I give the command I don't want to see it, let alone having to waste time clicking the key again to get rid of it.
