Code 643 when trying to install security updates

I am trying to install two recent security updates (KB2656370 & KB2656353) and keep getting error code 643 with the updates failing to install.

I have tried the following fixes to no avail:

1) Fix MSI software update corruption issues (Microsoft Fixit 50123)

2) Repair the .NET Framework

3) Reset Windows Update components and then try updating your computer (Microsoft Fixit 50202 - Default only, I am a bit afraid to try the "Aggressive" option!)

The above methods were detailed on Error codes

Any idea what I should do next? Someone somewhere has suggested they should be installed manually - how do I do this?
