Connected local only to unidentified network

Belarc Advisor will not show you the number.

Thanks for that information. I wasn't sure as I don't use Norton, but both of those I suggested do work for many programs. It's good to have it confirmed that Belarc will not show Norton information so if necessary, I will not suggest it again and only suggest the other option unless you also know and can let me know that one does not show Norton as well. Unfortunately, I have no way to test it myself.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Sorry the free version @ SIW | System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala does not list my Norton licence number.

Hi Lottie,

I very much appreciate you checking for me. It seems Norton does its best to keep such information from being revealed - even to programs that are generally very good at finding these numbers and codes. I guess the only option is to have the individual contact Norton to get the information (if Norton even has it if the product wasn't bought online or renewed online - though I suppose they would have the activation code if he could somehow prove he was the owner without the serial number or something else). It sounds similar to the problem of someone who has a genuine Vista Disk but no Product Key (and it was an OEM installation so the Product Key on the system can't be used for activation or the hard disk is fried and can't be accessed in any way). Here, if the subscription was successfully renewed online or by phone or by e-mail, Norton should have what is needed to transfer it to the other machine.

Thanks much!

Grant,

How are you doing with regards to your original issue?

Have you tied to log-in to your Norton account & found your registration codes?

I've accessed my account, but besides the product key, the only other code i can see is the 12 digit product serial number. By product key I do mean the 25 digit key, Lorien, however it came inside the Norton 360 box.

Hi Grant,

If your Norton subscription has expired and needs to be renewed, you need to contact Norton about that. No codes from an expired account will help you re-install the product. If you have an online account that may be the easiest way. If not, you need to call them to renew and I have no idea what they will require as proof you have the product to renew (if they require anything at all - it may not be needed for renewals for all I know). If your subscription is up-to-date and you do not need to renew, then login to your online account on the Norton site - if you forgot your username or password there should be instructions on how to get past that hurdle. If you never signed up for an account or can't get the online system to give you what you need (the necessary codes), then just call them and they should help walk you through the process or provide them over the phone. You said earlier the 25-digit code was too long to enter, so that can't be the right code. Is the 12-digit code the right size or also wrong in some way (or rejected)? Does it say Norton on the label or does it say Microsoft - that should tell which program it applies to. I think your best option is to call Norton and get their help with this code problem.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

Hi,

Do you see something like this screen?

If so you need to note that the only code avaialble is the second one from the bottom. Valid until Jan 18, 2011.

click on the arrow to reveal the activation code for that product & insert that product key in the new serial box of Norton 360 as described earlier.

If you only have one product key
i.e T2CB7-YCKT7-TGDQG-D5FM2-GHTQ9 (Not a real code) I made that one up!

If it is current & still in use on your other PC, then this should work (Both installed versions must be the same) v4.0 etc.
If you need the installation files for v4.0 & use with your activation code you can down load them from me as I have them. If they are not v4.0 then you need to obtain & install the same version as the working one on the Norton 360 activated PC.

Ask for the files & I will message you the location & how to download them!

Is this of any help?

Yes, i see that exact screen. When i click the arrow, there's two codes listed. One that's 12 digits called the serial number, and one that's 25 called the product key. When i click on "Renew Subscription" It gives me three options for renewing. Two of them require an internet connection. The third, manually entering a code i already have, wont work because it requires a code that's 19 digits long. I thought i was in the wrong place, so i went to the option underneath "Renew Subscription", which is "Activate Norton 360". This requires 25 digits and despite the fact that the product key fitted into the space provided, i require an internet connection to go any further and actually activate Norton 360.

I think there's some confusion here, Lorien. I have Norton 360 up and running on the good PC, which i am on. It only needs renewing/activating on the broken PC. The codes I'm acquiring should work, considering they come from a working Norton 360.

So this is where you use the call/ phone for an activation authorisation key from the automated activation system.

Select manual/ phone

Then follow the prompts "remember to answer you only have this on one PC"

Let us know how you get on!

As one thought.

Please go to Norton 360 setting
Firewall

Look to see if the box is selected to block all trafic has been selected on Norton.

This would also give you the same symptom as you mentioned earlier.

Hopefully it was that easy?

"Block all network traffic" is set to "unblocked", and has been the entire time. I think I'll give them a call to get this 19 digit code.

If after all of this Norton business it turns out to be another cause, i think I'll have to start up my entire internet connection again as Lorien suggested earlier. However, does anyone think that the problem might perhaps be a technical error inside my computer, rather than strictly a networking error? I hear that certain components inside the computer can cause this problem too.

My Computer

Hi Grant,

In all honesty, while anything is possible, I honestly think the connection merely needs to be reset (unless the Norton configuruation is bad) as something didn't work right the first time. Although what you suggest is a feasible alternative, I recommmend we address it only after we've considered and tried the more likely causes (as those problems are MUCH harder and take more time to diagnose).

Have faith, this is taking a bit longer than any of us hoped, but we will get there eventually (somehow). We'll be here the whole time to assist any way we can and as best we can.

Good luck with Norton and then, if needed, the network restart.

I've managed to get Norton 360 running on the broken PC, and I've tried the fixes. Unfortunately, Norton doesn't seem to be the problem, as I'm still getting no internet. Shall i restart from scratch and set up a new internet connection?

My Computer

That's what I'd do. I'd have done it quite some time ago - but I understand why you wanted to try these alternatives first.

Remember to review the procedures: http://www.vistax64.com/network-sha...al-only-unidentified-network.html#post1293912 and make sure you do it right - if the problem is how you're creating the connection or how it's configured, then this will not work any better than the current connection.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

No need to delete the current connection. Maybe later if this doesn't work (and then I'll explain how to do it), but for now let's try this less radical approach. Remember, it must be done correctly with all the proper settings everywhere or it will probably have the same problems as the current connection.

Here's a link to the prior post with instructions and links to articles to help you set it up: http://www.vistax64.com/network-sha...al-only-unidentified-network.html#post1293912. Make sure you understand how to do it right and all the proper settings in all the places where things need to be set before starting. Reboot when done before trying the new connection.

If you're set to login automatically, you will need to logoff and then login with the new connection to test it properly.

If it doesn't work, disable the firewall and security software and try again. If it still doesn't work, boot into safe mode with networking and see if you can connect from there. If not, something is still wrong and we may need to try some more extensive and perhaps more radical alternatives - but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.

Good luck!
