connection to internet

im guessing ive missed the old post as im told this was a commone problem
im not able to connect to the internet as my laptop says that my network adaptor 6 x 40 # (random number appears here) is at fault
and this line is repeated many times more each time i try to connect to the neti disable the driver but then it will reappear again when i try again it seems to be trying to open lots of the same driver ? or am i missing something
i hope thia helps describe the problem but im ok using it and can handle the basics but even trying to update the drivers for my network adaptor it says i have the best driver so of course im at aloss and as its vista im nto looking forward toy having to go drastic and reformat the laptop
i hope someone has a few things i can try

The problem with Network/Internet device drivers is you need the device to be working in order to find and/or repair drivers. So you will need to have access to a computer with working Internet to download and reinstall a driver. From this site start with "Mobile devices" to get to your model: V5535



First we need to know if you are using a cable to connect your laptop to the Internet or if you are using Wireless. Do you connect directly to your Internet Provider's Modem or do you have a Router in between?

Have you checked the cable and the plugs at each end? Have you rebooted the Modem and then your laptop to see if connection is restored? Have you called your Internet Service Provider to see if they are connected to the Modem in your house?

Once you have checked all the physical connections to your laptop and know that the Internet connection to your house is good, some other possibilities are that the Network Adapter in your laptop is bad, or even just the connectors inside have come disconnected. Switching from cable to wireless or vice versa can help diagnose broken parts. (It helps if you can borrow some known working parts, like a wireless modem to test, or a USB network adapter to see if you can connect to the Internet with these parts.)

Before I would even think about reinstalling the OS, I would make sure the adapters and connections are in working condition.
