OK now after all the fun and games (a learning experience for you and a test of my Googling abilities :D ) that last Device Manager shot looks like everything is in order.

I assume you still have the Realtek control/icon down in the systray, and it is working OK? If so back to the original question about crackling. Is it just the one game or is it happening anywhere else? Also back in Device Manager right click on the sound card and select Properties and the click on the Driver tab, and post back what driver version it is showing.

No idea what could be causing the cracking you are getting, and what makes it even harder to track down is that it only happens in this one game. Had a poke around on the game's official forum,

Kerberos Productions • Index page

but didn't find any reports there regarding cracking either. maybe try posting on there and see what they can come up with.

I will do Stormy, thanks so much for your attention and help, its very much appreciated, I have to confess though that since I installed the Realtek update and changing that option in the Bios to enabled as you said, I have not tested the game out, but before I post there I will do, its just that I have been doing other things and got downloading and therefore never got round to it, but I will :D

Many thanks to you again, you've been a Saint
