Defrag won't run at all

All of a sudden cannot run defrag at all. Not even as an administrator as defrag.exe c: -w, or as defrag.exe -c -w for all drives and volumes. It will not run.

Can you run Disk Defragmenter from System Tools?

No. Just tried but the defrag dialog box will not appear. Can't run it as administrator either.

Open the Windows help file and search on "defragment". Click on Start Disk Defragmenter. Can you access it that way.

Have you tried a system restore to prior to when this problem occurred?

Why not try one that many think are better than the one included with Vista.

I would go with Richards link. Don't forget to turn off the Vista defragger in Task Scheduler if you do this though as two defragg programs running will cause problems

Seems like the problem is being ignored. He can't access the defragger in Vista.

I would start with a system file check

Go to Start Search Box and type CMD
While holding down CTRL and SHIFT press ENTER
In the box that opens type
SFC /SCANNOW and press ENTER (note the gap before/)
If errors are found restart your computer and do the scan again.
Run it up to three times.
