Deleting Vista in Dual Boot

I have DuelBoot system set up on my desktop (Win 7 and Vista). I don't use Vista anymore and it's acting up ( will not close down) and I don't want to waste time fixing it.
Vista is located on it's own 500GB HD and Win 7 is a 1TB HD. I would like to format the drive and add Win 8 as the 2nd boot, just to try.
What do I have to do to get rid of Vista and not affect my Win 7? I don't want problems.

Hello Barrie and welcome to the forums :party:

Vista wouldn't fit on a 1GB HD, was this a typo? Before we continue, I just want to clear up what you're trying to do so we're on the same wavelength :) At the moment, your primary OS is Vista, but you've dual booted with Windows 7, and you want to change so your primary is Windows 7 but you also want Windows 8 dual booted with it?

My primary boot is Win 7 - I have all my active files transferred to win 7. Do not use Vista anymore.
When I upgraded to Win 7 I set up a duel boot system - Vista and Win 7- just in case I did not like Win 7. I liked Win 7 and don't use Vista anymore. I would like to get rid of Vista and download Win 8 to try.
Sorry about typo - it's 500GB.

Vista has i's own HD and partition and Win 7 Pro has it's own HD and partition.

Hi Barrie,

Okay, that's great, thanks for the clarification :) If you're sure that you have copied everything you want off the Vista partition, follow this tutorial to delete the partition:

Partition or Volume - Delete - Windows 7 Forums

Then create a partition from the unallocated space:

Partition or Volume - Create New - Windows 7 Forums

Make it an NTFS partition :)

Then reboot your computer. It might not boot. By the sounds of things it should be okay, but I don't know for sure. If it doesn't boot, just boot from your Windows 7 disc and do a startup repair:

Then follow these steps to install Windows 8 to that partition:
