desktop freeze

i have a computer that has worked fine for almost two years. now my computer wont allow me to download any exe files or save them to any location also the desktop is constantly freezing . i tried the msconfig clean boot and it still happens so what next ?????

Hello oldale40,
It sound like you need to do a bit of maintenance.
I will give you some links, just hope you can download from them.
Install and run all these programs, in no particular order. (they are all free apps).

CCleaner - Download

Also, take a look at this tutorial and carry out a check/repair.

This will fix most software problems.

i already have all those and more my system reports no errors. but my desktop icons freeze as soon as i use one or go into any program even with a clean boot using msconfig disabling all startup files. this just started a few days ago. malware ,spybot and pc doctor and avg all report no problems or rootkits. it is a pain in the ass. also it blocks me from saving files to the desktop. such as pdf or docs while readying to attach to email

Have you tried a system restore, to a point before this started ?.

Maybe try getting rid of the junk in your hard drive by using disk cleanup and disk defragmenter
