display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding

Hmm. Can you get into the BIOS?

YOU MAY NEED TO FIDDLE WITH THE SETTINGS>

Also might want to try resetting the cmos since it's a simple button push
Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
Doing this resets the mobo to ";dumb" and first boot will refind deverything.

Gets crazier. Downloaded the driver and took out the card. Now my display looks like I'm back in the 90's. The driver is having issues installing....as in, it went thru everything, asked to restart, and then tried to go thru the complete install again. I did. Then is restarted and tried to go thru the install again. I cancelled and it cancelled with no changes. Still functional but display is large and looks like an old fashioned monitor style.

I reinserted the card and powered it all up. I haven't closed the box yet but I ran my Civ Rome game. It had only one instance where I had to pause, Alt-Tab to main screen, and re-enter. I was able to play with no screen issues for about two hours. However, I got a call from my unit asking me to fwd a file to someone so I had to flip to main screen, enter IE, login to secure email and send a file. When I went back to the game, it said it had an error and had to close. Not sure if that's a video issue or something else.

I wanted to ask you something else. My system used to be a Sony Vaio. I replaced the MB due to a crash so you're aware of my MB. When I put the new system together, I left out a card which used to sit next to my video card. It has the three audio/video plugs and a connection for coax (TV) on it. While I had the machine open, I put that card on the MB. You see any issue with this? Not sure how I'll know if it works but it'd be nice to be able to reconnect my PC to my DirectTV. I used to be able to watch/record TV thru my PC.

THat card was/is probably a tuner card so you can run coax input.. There shouldn't be an issue with proper drivers. Just d/l them from Sony.

The system being a former Vaio explains the newer 730i board and an old 7600gt.

Not sure about your crash. Play some more and see what goes on. Reseating the 7600gt might have giggle together corroded contacts and you may get it playing good again.
Still curious why the onboard never took the drivers, though being older, 9 series are 3 or 4 series ago, so the gpu driver might be bollucks.

Anyway see how the 7600 runs now. You might have scared it to work.

Question...ordering video card. Should I change out the power unit also? If so, which would you recommend? There are a lot to choose from.

The power supply should be sufficient, AMD specs a 400W, and that is a bit more than it uses so you should be fine.

I received the HIS Radeon HD7750 last night. It is installed and running. I don't see any lines or glitches in my screen. I decided to try my Civ Rome game on the highest settings....no problem. Now I'm trying Civ 4 games. I have that complete package on disk. First I'd like to try the Beyond the Sword. Since I haven't played it in a year or so, I went to the "Advanced" tab and told it to check for updates. It found a Patch 3.19 and downloaded it. It's zipped but says JZip cannot open it. I researched and read where gurus were saying it was because you have to have 3.13 and 3.17 first. So, how can I find out which version my game is currently at? One guy responded that 3.13 gave him an error and the response was that his package already had 3.13 but there were no details on how he knew that.

Second question...I'm eventually going to want to run my Civ V game. Can you tell if my system now meets the requisites for that game? I'd like to download and try the new expansions for it because they look pretty fun.

I can't answer your second question.

I believe there's a free version of 7-zip that you could try on your .zip file.

I can tell you, without even looking you're above the specs needed for Civ V. While it's not the top of the line, one of the links I shared has Civ 5 as one of the benchmarks for the 7750.

You're systems going to be just fine for a long while.

I'm not certain how, but there should be an "About' tab on Civ 4 main screen.. but I haven't played in a long while to exactly remember though.

I googled and found this:
