Do you LOVE or HATE Windows Vista?

I had only one love and it was my old 8-bit computer C64.
It is not good to fall in love with PC system such as Vista, Xp, Linux, etc.
Vista looks good, but I don´t like it. It is very unstable!!! Sometimes it fail to boot, sometimes it boots without printers, sometimes it boots without graphic driver, it doesn´t read CDs etc.......
At the moment there is more points to dislike this system. This system has a lot of children´s ailment.

I have to agree. I am sure your not trying to install it on the 8 bit computer lol, but you sound like you have a hardware problem or something.

Vista does not do that unless something is really messed up.

I know I would love it if someone out there could help me with my wee problem. Just a newbie but having a few problems getting around these forums, etc. so please excuse if I am in the wrong place, at the wrong time, etc.etc. Kisses to whoever can tell me a simple answer to my problem ... In Favorites Center (In Oz we would actually write Favourites Centre so its difficult to have to mispell), I am having great difficulties with the scroll bar. Please be nice and don't laugh...Anyways, clicking on down arrow or space below scroll bar will not let me scroll down the favourites list. If I hold the shift down it will though but surely this should not be required. If I click and drag the scroll bar down also this is ineffective and the list just leaps straight back up. There is no chance whatsoever to select anything in the hidden lower part of the list, so this defeats the purpose of having a list of course. Would love a simple answer to my dilemna once you all stop laughing. I'm sure it is something very easy problem for you guys to answer. Close to tears at this stage. Hope someone out there will be nice. Byes.

Hello Janet Planet. Welcome to the forums. When you click on the FAVORITES you get a list of URL's. Down the bottom, right in the centre is a tiny little down arrow. Clicking on this allows you to scroll down, there is a similar arrow at the top. If you move your mouse to that arrow the list should scroll automatically.

For Janet Planet - Just another bit of advice since you're a Forum newbie type....Always start a "New Thread" for any questions you may have. When you bury a question this deep inside another post (especially one that is not even Help Post type), they are easily missed. If you have a question in it's own thread, many more people will see it and you have a better chance of getting things fixed. Many forum helpers just read through the thread titles and skip ones they don't think they can help with, so by asking your questions in other threads you pretty much eliminate about 50% of the folks who may be able to help you.

Also, don't add your questions into other people's question posts even if they are similar. That is called "Thread Hijacking" and it causes confusion between posters as nobody really knows who is talking to whom, and the thread quickly gets out of hand.

Ok, now for this one...Love it!! (and hate it at times)
But isn't that always the case with computers...;)
Vista 64bit is stable, useful and just damn good looking too, but as with anything this complex things can go wrong some times and even as advanced as I can be, it can be a PITA to fix things.
I had the most trouble when Beta testing Eset Smart Security suite for 64bit, and Comodo Firewall Pro V3 for 64bit. But these are both security programs that are deeply embedded into the OS and problems with these types of programs can mess things up for many aspects of the OS. So I have to blame my 7 reinstalls in 8 months on these Beta programs and not on Vista so much.

I also have to wholeheartedly agree that most user problems are probably folks who are running a Marginal Vista machine to begin with, or are issues they`ve caused thru faults of their own...you know...PEBCAK Errors! (LOL)

yes and no. yes because its a beautiful interface, no because its so unreliable! heres my spec...

vista ultimate 64bit
4tb raid 5- and a 4tb drobo :)
24gb ram
2 intel zeon quadcores
nvidia quadro fx 4600
nvidia geforce 8800

with all that and a strong knowledge with machines i still have problems, i think it is a beautiful os, but unreliable especially for its price, too many errors will occur for users and they are just lucky that forums like this exist to help them when that happens, i bet not one of you can honestly say you have never not had an error with vista!? be honest, dont support microsoft by lying, when an error occurs with programs or hardware and its been proven to be a vista issue what do microsoft say... its not our fault, go to the supplier of your hardware or software!!!! .........brilliant! you pay for this os and thats the support you get!!!!

i think people buy it because its pretty and its the latest version! its like buying software upgrades like cs3 or the latest playstation, people like us have to have it! its a cruel mentallity were people assume that because its new, it must be better! and windows 7 i bet will have its fair share of problems too!im sure it will be better but it will have problems, look at the latest equipment you can get from apple, like the air book, piece of ****! iphone, overpriced hardware, that has flaws and people again bought it because its an apple product which usually means two things, its reliable and its pretty.

Vista is a winner for me. I've been using it since RTM and I've never looked back. I'm in the process of deploying it to 100 clients at work in a domain, where it works very well indeed.

The first month that I had Vista, I hated it. After I found this forum and found out what I was doing wrong and reinstalled, I came to enjoy it very much. The only problems I've had either before or after the reinstall where, as Chappy said, PEBCAK problems. ;) But then I like to play and try new things and I expect to break something once in a while. If things go tooo smooth for tooo long I feel I'm not trying hard enough. ;) Even with that, I've only had one BSOD since last March.
I'm very impressed. Best OS I've ever used and that includes Linux and Mac.

I well say this despite all of the bad press that Vista has received since it's l launch. I was skeptical. I have been a long time computer geek.

and I have used everything from DOS to Linux as a desktop OS. and I must say windows Vista X64 is my favorite Windows OS so far :). I just converted to Vista Ultimate 64 bit this week and my system is running like a champ now. even on 1 GB of RAM. But that's changing in a few weeks
