Do you LOVE or HATE Windows Vista?

Ultimate 64 bit this week and my system is running like a champ now. even on 1 GB of RAM. But that's changing in a few weeks

So yeah I love VISTA

you wait till you have 3gb or more in there, you'll see it ''sprinting like a champ''....lol :p
Vista's raw speed comes from its cache...... MORE RAM = MORE CACHE = QUICKER OS!!

:)SK

my current MomBo only supports 3 gigs but I am gonna get another 2 gigs for now then do a system upgrade refresh when I get more $$ But I can't wait to see the performance boost the full 3 should give me :)

Vista is ok. If you have XP already there's no real need to upgrade to Vista imo. if you just want to for piece of mind or to keep up with the times to by all means do so. But, Vista is really just XP with a makeover.

Not really....

Windows 7 will be a Vista make over, but XP and vista are different.

For me, I have not seen a huge difference between Vista and XP, though it doesnt take as long to start up (i was at like 3 minutes with XP) and it does look a bit nicer. I dont like the new start menu as much, but a lot of the other features are good. Overall, (I'm running Ultimate x64) i like it a lot, and dont plan on going back to XP.

Now, if only Microsoft grew some balls and actually made a real OS.... That would kick Apple out of the water!

How is Vista not a re-make of XP? They changed virtually nothing about Vista except mainly a lot of security features. Not to come off like a douche... I'm asking because I really want to know.

The question is really a moot point since this is a Vista forum, but yes I love Vista 64. As has been stated, if you have fairly new software and hardware, Vista is the way to go, even in gaming!

The better question would be “Do you use 32 or 64bit version of Vista and why?”

For me, it the memory stupid. I can’t imagine anyone with 4gig or more of memory using a 32bit OS. You’re basically throwing away some of your memory because a 32bit OS will not fully utilize the full 4 or more gigs of memory.

As for Vista versus XP, well I have XP installed on a separate HD but only use it because my Nikon Super Coolscan 4000’s software doesn’t do Vista 64, and I much prefer Nikon’s software as opposed to Vuescan, which does support my scanner under Vista 64. Outside of that, I would never use XP.

Vista 64 all the way.

I think that Vista is a new kernal, and different from XP. Even if it is only a little different, they also changed a lot of stuff on the OS.

Now Im just hoping that Microsoft will one day realize that people dont want every little free add on that they put in, and just make a real simple, real light, and real small OS. They can have all the same features, but downloadable maybe, or on the DVD to be installed seperatly or in packages. Imagine how much faster laptops and older PCs could run..... :)

That's why Vista has so many different flavors from Vista Home basic - light, to Vista Ultimate x64 - heavy. There you go, choices.

I myself chose Vista Ultimate and would have ran from basic, but that's me; and my system runs just fine. :)

It seems we are stuck with "bloatwares" with any new OS and PC purchase....or we pay more. They say that's the only reason they can be sold less expensively...the revenue generating ads (aka trial versions). Even newspapers are estimated to be at least three times costlier if they were advertisement free.

I cannot imagine paying $1.50 for NY POST. Or $1500.00 for my $950.00 HP, all cluttered with bloatwares. For $500.00 savings, I'd suck it up

Well I meant more that they would create an OS with NOTHING on it but the required items. Basically just a platform that you can connect to the internet, and run programs from. Then they could have a lot more things on the DVD to install, or download. And just to keep the OS as light as possible, with no extra things. I guess i don't know how to say all of it, but basically just something that has as little as possible, and nothing else. Just to keep it simple and small, so older computers and laptops can run it smoothly. And i know there is a light version of Vista, but i mean a lighter and smaller one...

I hope that is clear.... probably not. :(

Hi Bob,

Seems that they are thinking a bit in that direction for Window 7. No photo gallery, no mail. These are available for download from Windows Live. No sidebar. A bit here about half way down the page. http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/windows_7.asp

I don't love or hate Vista. To me Vista is like any other new thing that is always interesting to acquaint with, challenging to learn, and fascinating to find something new and different.

Something I like to mention though, many hate Vista because their problematic computer happened to have Vista installed in it.

Thats cool. I'm glad they are finally doing that. I am talking about a real barebones OS though. Dont think it will happen, but Windows 7 does seem to be a possible light in the tunnel. Hope it is!

Something I like to mention though, many hate Vista because their problematic computer happened to have Vista installed in it.

Yes that is true. Thats the main reason why people didnt like it at first, or at least one reason. A lot of older computers have trouble running it because it is a lot more graphics and RAM heavy, and without a good system, computers have it tough...
