Hey all,

I'm new to vista and i'm just wondering...just media center require media player to work? If not is it possible to remove wmp11? On that note, is it also possible to remove IE7? As I am a devoted Firefox user

You do not need media player to use media centre as they are two slightly different applications, you do not have to use either and can in fact download any other player or only use media centre. You can remove wmp11 but once again you can just disable it.

You do not have to remove IE7, set Firefox as your default browser and forget about it.

You *cannot* remove IE as it is tied in to Vista even tighter than it was in XP. Take a look at your history, and you should see some local paths from your Windows Explorer....

Media Center gets it's library information from media player. I'm 99% positive that if you removed media player, it would hose media center.

In the above post- Yes media player does the file fishing for ripping discs with media center. So you are s.o.l and will have to type in your own titles etc, but media center will function without it. not sure how you would get art should you need it. there are several players out there, and the new adobe player looks interesting. havent tried it yet though.

As for the removal; these are the days of abundant hard drive space.WMP is not a file worth trippin' about as far as consumption or space. just ignore it and set something else up as your default player. If it could be totally removed it would most likely corrupt some shared files or codecs and then you would have problems.

In control panel / internet options, it's still somewhat the same as xp. use your browser of choice and configure int. xploder 7 :sarc:(not a typo) as neccesary.

I call em as i see em.......
