don't know what to do with "sys error 5"

I'm trying to get full admin rights to my Vista PC but when I follow the instructions to go to the cmd prompt and type "net user administrator /active:yes" I get a system error 5 - access denied error. So my question is - What the heck is a system error 5 and how do I get rid of it? I suppose once I do, getting full admin rights will be pretty straight forward. Maybe?

Hello gadianton10,

Why do you want access to the hidden administrator account? It's highly inadvisable to enable it and work with it.

Are you the actual administrator of the computer or are you trying to become administrator on guest? If so, I do not think you can. Do you already have full administration? If so, it may give you an error, because it makes no sense to become admin twice. Hope I helped.

An account with administrator rights is different to the hidden admin account

I'm the only user of the computer and i thought I had admin rights but when I go to delete certain programs I get the message that I need to have admin rights in order to do so.

Hi gadianton10,

When uninstalling certain programs you would have to right click on the program or file, click Run as Administrator, uninstall the program and check if it works.

If issue persists, please follow the steps in the below mentioned link: "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied." error message may appear

Command Prompt

1. Click on the Start
   
   button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each
   
   net users {Your user name} > %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982.txt
   
   For example, the command for me would be net users Tom > %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982.txt
   
   
4. This will create a text file called tom982.txt in the root folder of your main drive (e.g. C:\tom982.txt). Please copy and paste the contents of this into your next post.
