Doomsday for Norton on Vista and XP?

On March 1, the following post appeared stating that May 22, 2024 would be the end of life for Norton on Windows XP and Vista:

I only know of one person who might be directly affected by this: @wither 3. I suppose he will continue to pay for 6-year-old Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1, but this might be a good time to discuss other remaining options for Vista.

Personally, I ran Vista for 12 years without ever once paying a dime for security software. The last antivirus I used was Avast Free 18.8. Other free options would include Kaspersky 18 and even Microsoft Security Essentials 4.4.304.0 (the last version without a time bomb for XP/Vista). It is astonishing to me that Microsoft is still providing signatures for MSE in 2024, and no one knows how long they will continue - but that’s also true of the remaining third-party options. MSE signature updates are signed with SHA-2, so Imacri will never recommend MSE for Vista (but advanced Vista users know there is a solution for that problem).

Yeh, they discontinued it for Vista. That didn't stop them from renewing it for $128 for 5 devices. That included every extra they had. Take away the extras, and they wanted $49. Got the same thing at Newegg for $16.
Malwarebytes keeps updating my definitions so, I'm good with it.
