Downloads full of unknown files

Hi, I looked in my downloads file a few days ago to find that it was full of files that weren't there before. They mostly seem to be 'PAS' files and 'DFM' files which I've never heard of before. It says the date they were modified were 25/01/2009 so they're not recent files. I'm just wondering whether they've moved from somewhere on the laptop, not got a clue what they are. (I've attached a screen shot)
If anyone can help explain this please?

Do these, explanations of the extesions, ring any bells as to why they have appeared: -

DFM File Extension - Open .DFM files

PAS File Extension - Open .PAS files

Don't know why they would just appear.
What else has changed on your computer?

Nope no idea...I just cant understand where they've come from. Nothing else has changed on the laptop, everything is working fine. Its just annoying having them filling up my downloads file and not knowing what they are and not knowing whether its ok to delete them

Do a malware scan with malwarebytes and a system file check first.
Go to start search box type cmd,hold ctrl and shift and press enter
type sfc /scannow in the box that opens.
If errors are found,reboot and run the test again. Up to 3 times.

I've just done the sfc /scannow and it found corrupted files that couldn't be fixed. Do I need to run the scan again now?

Run it 3 more times.
It may not be able to fix the files or it cannot fix them all at once.

Most questions at the forums appear many times, but yours is rather unique, I know that I have never seen it before. Trying my best to help I did some research and the only thing that I can come up with is that it may be a registry problem or some other corruption that ocurred in the past. What I would suggest is that you download and try ccleaner. I have told others to use this awesome software, and not to tick any registry cleaning, your case is different. Download the software and then back up your registry. Tick all the registry entries and see if that deletes the problem files.
If that does not work, download and try temporary file cleaner, that will remove all temporary files.
If the above does not work, you may wait for others to answer, but I think you are stuck with the files, unless you want to try an reininstall, but if you are not having problems that would not be a wise choice.

Ok thanks, I'll try that, trust me to have a unique problem lol
There is one more thing, don't know whether it has anything to do with it.
I have Virgin Media security installed and every so often for the past few days it keeps popping up at the bottom of screen saying that Rundell32 has been blocked from accessing the internet (think that's what it says) ... don't know if that's anything to do with the problem?

Also I've just ran the ccleaner and lots of problems have shown up as you can see in the screen shot. Do I click to fix seleted issues? and how do I back up my registry?

Dont know if its related, but thats a bad trojan. I will refer this to our security people. For the time being, do not enter any senstivie passwords, banks, etc. If you can, change all the passwords from another computer. You are probably ok, because it has been blocked, but I want to give you the same advice that i would take.

Thanks Just referring back to the ccleaner, do I need to click to 'fix seleted issues' (which is a LONG list lol) or just leave it for now?

I would suggest, that because of this potentially bigger problem, just wait.
If the trojan problem is corrected and you still have the initial concern, I would tick one at at time. If no problems move to the next. Dont forget to back up registry. As I said, I usually suggest ccleaner, with the intructions to untick registry, but yours seems to be a registry problem.

I've also started a Virgin Media anti-virus scan going, is this ok?

Ok thanks I'm running the scan now...its been scanning for 30mins now, will copy and paste the results when its finished.
