Driver Assistance........

Hi

I've started doing pc repairs at home part time, whilst I am on leave from the Navy....I work in IT and consider myself as in the lower band of advanced, knowledge wise.....

What I'm after is advice on where best to obtain discs with all drivers I may require etc etc....I have UBCD and XP/Vista repair discs etc etc, just wanted to get myself in a position to be able to tackle most issues quickly and efficiently...any other tips appreciated!!!!

As far as drivers go, the following compliments of richc46 should help:

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver

- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

Read through the Tutorials here and at www.sevenforums.com. Check out any that involve repairing or troubleshooting or anything you're likely to do. Many have links to software that may assist in the process (like creating memory testing disks, hard drive testing disks, disks to access the system using other operating systems like Ubuntu, and so forth) - and not only disks but software as well (and other testing procedures, repair procedures, configuration procedures, and other methodologies you will find very helpful).

I think that would be a great way to gather up some very useful tools, software, disks, procedures, and information to do what you plan to do.

Hi mate, Being in the army I have a slight idea of what you are going through.
Google is the best tool for drivers.
It is also a grat tool for workshop manuals.
As had been said previously, the tutorials and advice on this forum are second to none as would be expected from the forces.
You are in good hands here mate, any more advice needed then just post, and all your questions will be answered(hopefully):D
