Driver compatibility between 32-bit and 64-bit

I’ve just bought a new Win7 64-bit computer ... still in the box. I will be connecting via dial-up, and have bought Wintek’s external Filemate USB Modem CX ... which came with a mini-CD installation disk.

I’ve heard horror stories about mini-CD’s jamming vertical DVD/CD drives ... so, hoping to avoid using the mini-CD and jamming my new computer, I’ve downloaded the installation/driver file from the modem manufacturer onto a DVD ... via my old Vista 32-bit system. But the modem installation file is zipped ... so I can’t unzip/extract the .inf file and move it to my new computer ... without installing 7-Zip (or something similar) to my Vista system.

Bearing in mind that I can’t download anything to my new computer until I install the modem, will there be compatibility problems from moving a file which was downloaded/unzipped on a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system? Any other suggestions for installing my modem?

Thanks a million ...

Hello rhjoyson and welcome to the forums

There won't be any problems if you unzip a file on a x86 system that you then go on to use in a x64 system :)

I think the mini-CD problem is over-rated. I would just use it. If the drive gets jammed you can open it with a paper clip.
