Driver updates

What is the best way to keep ALL your drivers current?? I have been using Device Manager but I'm not sure this is the best approach. It has never shown a driver to be out of date after having checked the web.

Hello Rickory,

If there isn't a driver for your hardware in Windows Vista, there's a good chance it's available online through Windows Update. That's why you should set Windows Vista to automatically download and install all recommended updates for your computer.Windows Update detects your specific hardware configuration and downloads only the drivers you need (along with recommended software updates). To learn how to get recommended updates automatically, see Turn automatic updating on or off.

For more details, see The hunt for drivers.

Hope this helps!

Hello Rickory,

All necessary updates/patches for windows
will be pushed through Windows Updates. For updated hardware drivers, you will have to check the vendor/manufacturer websites. I would request you to let me know the make and model number of the computer so that I can assist you further.

IMO, one don't use windows automatic updates for drivers except for microsoft drivers; use the manufacturer's website instead. Two, when it comes to drivers, I follow the philosophy of "if a isn't broke, don't fix it." Drivers are finicky and messing them can cause issues especially if the newest version has a bug (heaven forbid) so if what you have works for you and your system is stable then why would you risk that? Three if you do decide to update backup your system first just in case.
