winsat formal -v -xml %userprofile%\Desktop\WinSATResults.xml

Noob q for ya: how best to read the created xml file? Default is IE, which makes it look like I'm debugging machine code. Can we do better (for free)?

Thanks for the info so well organized and concise, dmex.

Hi Hogtowner,

I have been thinking about that for the last 4 weeks...The only way I can think of is using the PowerShell pipe commands to either write to HTML or TXT using variables...

Theres infomation about Powershell here: http://www.vistax64.com/beta-software/164001-powershell-toolbox.html

what exactly do you mean by "DVD driver"? do you mean some software for you DVD device, or your DVD device itself? does it appear in "My Computer" ?

Windows usually just has a driver that works fine for cdroms. I would recommend running a virus scan if you havent already. I have a newer acer notebook myself what model is it??? I have been on the acer site a few times and can look as well.

Possibly try a repair. When booting hit f8 a few times then

choose command prompt
Then type in the blinking cursor-

chkdsk /r

It may repair the driver. Otherwise try this

Go to device manager

then click on the dvd rom

then driver tab of the dvd rom.

Then choose roll back driver.

That may help.
