Easy Transfer hanging

I am in the process of moving contents of my Vista PC (Home Premium) to a new Windows 7 machine. On the Vista PC I am having problems with Easy Transfer hanging. Each time it reaches the point "collecting files and settings for desktop" it goes no further - as you can see from the attached screenshot, the progress bar has barely moved at all and this was after going away and leaving the PC for an hour. If I close the Easy Transfer window I am asked if I am sure I want to close and I confirm this. It then says "closing Easy Transfer" but it doesn't and I have to close the program using Task Manager. I have gone through this whole process three times with the same problem each time.

It worked fine for me
I used this method.
Transferred everything to a finger drive
Then used the finger drive to transfer to 7
Did not use or pay for any special cables.

Possible problems
Going from 32 bit to 64 bit
Files too large
Not enough room

Thanks for the reply. Something I have just discovered after making my post is that my old PC has Vista 32bit and the new one Win 7 64bit - however that shouldn't have prevented Easy Transfer on the Vista machine from working, after all it doesn't yet know at this stage the new machine is 64bit.

Just to cover your other point: I'm using an empty 1Tb USB hard drive to do the transfer so no problem with lack of space.

Due to the 32-64bit incompatibility it looks like I'll need to do the transfer manually now anyway but I still find it odd that Easy Transfer just hung like that.

You need the proper version of Easy Transfer
