"extend volume" option is greyed out!

Hi,
I am plying the "Disk Management" in my Vista to try to increasing the volume of (J:). However, I found the "extend volume" option for (J:) is greyed out!
At the moment, the situation (Disk 0 Basic 298.09 GB Online) is:
55MB Healthy (EISA Configuration)
RECOVERY(D:) 5.12 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition)
OS (C:) 250.43 GB NTFS Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition)
1.46 GB Unallocated
OS2 (J:) 41.01 GB NTFS Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Logical Drive)
Do you have any suggestion?
Thank you so much in advance.

I don't know how large you want J to be but, since the total disc space is allocated, I think you're going to have to shrink your C: drive to get extra space for the J. You don't have much to work with if you only have 55 Mb of free space.

wither 3,

Thank you.

Firstly, I think the "55MB Healthy (EISA Configuration)" is not free space, I don't know what it is!
There is 60 GB free in C:, but only 3 GB available to be shrinked and I shrinked 1.46 GB and got "1.46 GB Unallocated".
When I tried to increas the volume of J:, I found the "extend volume" option for J: is greyed out!

I don't think it would be able to increase the J volume by only 1.46 Gb.

How much virtual memory do you have set?

In Control Panel, go to System
In the left pane, click Advanced system settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

In the Advanced tab, how much total virtual memory is set.

So 2 GB won't be available for shrinkage unless you move the virtual memory to another drive. Then there are other files it won't shrink but I don't think that would cause this problem.

If you go to Accessories, run the Disk Cleanup utility and then reboot. How much space does that free up?

Do you have the Windows defrag utility running?
