Please post your system specs. I've had problems with Fallout 3 due to nvidia drivers and SLI settings. Once I got all this sorted, I've had no crashes. But I don't know if any of this will apply to you.

I'm running Vista X64 with an Nvidia eGeForce 9800 GX2.
I had no problem installing Fallout 3, but when I run it, it is so choppy that I cannot even play it. I've got a ASUS M2N-32 SLI Deluxe MB, with AMD Athlon 64-FX-62 CPU with 2GB RAM.

I was able to install it and it plays great on my work PC (A Dell Precision 380 with the stock GEForce 6800 that came with it.)

Any suggestions on what to do? I downloaded the latest NVidia drivers yesterday but to no avail. It is even sluggish when I try to run it in 800X600 resolution.

I didnt have any issues installing the game at all and it runs smooth as butter at 1680 x 1050 on high settings. No hiccups.

However, I have experienced a couple of crashes though, but only 2 or 3 times.

Disable any AA or AF (you may have to set it application controlled in the fallout 3 profile in the nvidia control panel). Then lower the water and shadows in the Fallout details a notch or two. Then go to the Fallout 3 profile (in the nvidia control panel) and change the SLI setting to force alternate frame rendering 1.

Have you tried updating to the latest Fallout 3 patch? That fixes quite a few problems. It did for me.

Fallout 3 didn't have an Nvidia profile for me either, so to set SLI, but this works:

Start > Documents > My Games > Fallout 3

Open "RendererInfo" file

Look for SLi mode, should say "no"

Make it "yes".

Yeah, I got the patch. Driver 180.43 works better with no adjustments to the profile. However, I have no control over my 8800 GTX fans (I have 2) and I crash after a while. I don't think they're overheating but I can't be sure because I can't control the fans. Far Cry 2 runs for awhile and crashes as well. With the 178.24 and the settings I mention above, I can play Fallout 3 for hours. Far Cry 2 never starts. No other games have a problem with the 178.24. Games loaded:

AoE3
CoD4
Jericho
Crysis and WARHEAD (Very High 1600x1200)
Dead Space
FEAR
Gears of War
Mass Effect
NWN2
STALKER
Oblivion
Rise of Legends
Civ 4
The Witcher EE
KoTOR 2
World in Conflict
GRID
Ghost Recon AW
Assassins Creed
Prey

and others...

Hmm, I have two 8800GTS 512s in SLI, and with the 180.43 drivers, I can't control the fans manually, but the fans do speed up as the cards heat up. Check in GPU-Z to see what speed they're running at before and after playing games. Though I don't have any problems with 180.43.

Although I don't have a Fallout 3 profile in the control panel, but SLI works, as before I did the adjustment to the renderinginfo file for Fallout 3, I got 20fps in some places with maxed out graphics, but with SLI enabled, it never goes below 30.

I am going to post this info in the other thread i posted in. For me alot of the games didn't work and I was very frustrated. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers so many times i can't count. I was told that when you uninstall drivers it nver really gets completely wiped from the system. So I got this program http://www.drivercleaner.net/ and I again uninstalled the drivers but then ran this program in safe mode. It wiped my display driver clean out of my system. Then without letting Vista install the drivers I installed the latest drivers myself and presto.
Now EVERY game I have had a problem with works flawless on the computer. I am not sure if this will help everyone but I was so frustrated that I gave it a try.
Please if there was another way to do this with out the program would you please tell me. TO THE ADMIN: I was going to copy and paste this post on 2 other threads i posted a problem in.

Thanks for the advice my friend. After the tweak to the renderinginfo file I have absolutely no problems and it runs amazingly smooth.
