Fan speed control

Has anyone else noticed that the GPU fan speed control is not functioning with Vista 64 and the Radeon 3870x2? I am running Riva tuner to make the fan operate manually but I once had the option with Vista 64 and not flashing the card either.

I would if it was there. I have read there is some sort of a problem with that function when running the 3870x2 card. The card is supposed to be flashed so that it can work but I do not wish risking harming the card by flashing so I use rivaturner.

Yeah, I did some research and see the 3870x2 doesn't have the fan control option. Don't know what else to say; I've never used Riva Tuner so I have no suggestions there either. I don't even use the CCC's fan control with my 4850, which incidentally, replaced my 3870.

No other suggestions here.

Good luck.

You need to have an ATI 4800 series card to have the fan control option under Catalyst Control Center. I have a VisionTek 4850 and it has the fan control option under the Catalyst Control Center (9.2); has been there since the 8.10.

New Catalyst 8.10 Drivers Bring Fan Speed Control - Tom's Hardware
Catalyst Control Center™ Fan speed control

Also, in order to access the fan control option, you'll need to "Unlock" Auto Tune.

Rivatuner is a godsend.

I have a GTX280 and they just run so freakin hot.

Over the summer here, it was like having a fan heater on the side of my desk.

Changing cases to something with much more airflow, plus using Rivatuner allows my card to run under full load at under 55 degrees. Mind you, the fan is as loud as hell, but I'm happy if that card is kept cool.

The gigabyte card came out of the box with the idle fan speed @ 40%..Under load it would increase to 60% and if it got hotter still, it would only go to 80%.

Some of the Thermalright after market coolers look pretty sweet just quietly...
